Hmmm ... joined this forum because I wanted to add 'Curve' to the thread of band with female singers I was reading - then was reminded that I should have done an intro.

Well, here it is:

My name's Jimsin - I'll be 40 next month and thus possibly one of the oldest people here. I've never really considered myself as being a 'goth' - but have been called one for about 23 years. Looking back at pictures from the eighties I can maybe see why: example. These days I'm not so pretty, having lost all my hair somewhere - but here's another example of the current me.

Music & clubbing are my passion - although again I wouldn't describe my tastes as goth - back in the eighties I loved Siouxsie & The Banshees & Bauhaus, but since I haven't found very much to get excited about gothwise ~ with the noteable exception of Rasputina who never fail to amaze me. Music I enjoy the most just now are Laibach, Diamanda Galas, Killing Joke, The Dresden Dolls, Ladytron, Queen Adreena, Robots in Disguise, Le Tigre ... all quite diverse but again not very gothic.

I work part time in a call center - not very exciting, but it gives me enough money to go out at nights, which is what I enjoy most. I am co-organizer of a fetish night Obedience School, & perform in the stage acts, I DJ/organise a club called Xenophon, and on occasion I try to be creative - best examples being the Necropolis Chess Pieces I made with my friend Dawn, and my attempted webcomic Darling I'm Dying.

That should do for now - but if anybody was interested, then there is maybe too much information about me online already at my journal, Myspace,or my Website.

Edit: I notice that links to a popular online journal are filtered out - although Myspace isn't ... will have to get round to looking at the faq for the reasons for this - but really, all I wanted to do was to mention Curve in that other thread.

Hair involved direct crimper action onto wet hairspray coated roots - then lots of backcombing, hazardous amounts of extra hairspray - and a good bit of hanging upside down.

I subjected it to that treatment for about 13 years, so little wonder that I have none now

This is actually a good thing, so no offense, but you looked kind of like Robert Smith.

No offence taken - but I don't think I looked like him at all, in terms of my features - just the hair ... which was more inspired by Siouxsie. I do adore Robert Smith though .. so refreshing to see somebody famous that's so unconceited - I've never met him, but from watching interviews he seems to be a wonderful person.

Yea, he has a strong british accent, i can barely understand him at times.

Hello, you seem an interesting person.
I thought Killing Joke was Goth or more accurately Post-punk, whatever they are they're great.
Your hair is a bigger than Smiths and more like Siouxsie's.
Well, I hope you stick around and enjoy your stay in the Happy House.

I suppose it all depends on your definition of goth - but Killing Joke certainly don't fit in with mine ... the thing is that bands like Killing Joke & The Banshees were around before people started using the term 'goth' - and got the goth tag retrospectively ... whereas more recent bands have this pre-conceived idea about what goth actually is, and try to fit into that mould. I think that's one of the reasons why (IMHO) there are less exciting creative 'goth' type bands around these days - because they are fitting into something pre-defined by what has gone before, rather than creating something new.

Interesting to talk about things like this though - so am enjoying my stay here so far. Thanks for the comment

That's what I think about 'Goth' these days and I'm 17!
As far as I'm concerned after Sisters of Mercy Goth died, they ruined it. Now we have Gothic Rock, but it doesn't have the same 'zing' as the first wave.

Meh, I liked The Cure more than Sisters of Mercy.
but Sisters of mercy was/is a great band.

That's what I'm saying the Sisters killed Goth, maybe people should've payed attention when Eldritch stated so blatently that he is not a Goth. He was giving them a warning of the impending doom that may be caused if they decided to copy their sound and label it Goth Rock.
However I do like the March Violets, Inkubus Sukkubus and Voltaire but I remain firmly a fan of the first wave, Batcave and Deathrock.
