My grandfather died today...
so I post this poem by one of my favourites, Shelley, in rememberance.
He was my last living grandparent, had just turned 95 this year.
Bereavement
How stern are the woes of the desolate mourner
As he bends in still grief o’er the hallowed bier,
As enanguished he turns from the laugh of the scorner,
And drops to perfection’s remembrance a tear;
When floods of despair down his pale cheeks are streaming,
When no blissful hope on his bosom is beaming,
Or, if lulled for a while, soon he starts from his dreaming,
And finds torn the soft ties to affection so dear.
Ah, when shall day dawn on the night of the grave,
Or summer succeed to the winter of death?
Rest awhle, hapless victim! and Heaven will save
The spirit that hath faded away with the breath.
Eternity points, in its amaranth bower
Where no clouds of fate o’er the sweet prospect lour,
Unspeakable pleasure, of goodness the dower,
When woe fades away like the mist of the heath.

My grandmother died a two years ago, my last grandparent. It hurts like hell for a few weeks, especially when you're close to them.
I know how you feel.
Lovely poem.

Aw, I'm sorry Falken *comfort hug*
I still have my Mom's parents, but I'm still hurt from the death of my Father's. So I do know how you feel too.
But we all have to get on with it...
Good luck.

Hey, we should remember what this post is about. Fighting on it really isn't appropriate.
I love that poem, and i'm sorry for your loss Falken.

I don't know what in Gods name that was all about, but while I'm here I thought I should inform all of you if a handy little function.
You can block Yoko shithead. Just view its Public profile and click add to ignore list, really simple.
TWISTEDPAGES you may want to know that that last sentence made little sense. It should read:Does your small brain understand the four syllables coming out of my keyboard. You don't type with your mouth.

Sorry, Falken. Came in at the end of the thread, and you're right - this isn't the place for it. Apologies for cluttering up your remembrance thread with crap - stopping now...
Lovely poem. Here's one that always helps me when I've lost someone (I actually tried to post it this morning straight after my last post, but my computer froze and then I had to go to work. Meh) - I posted it somewhere here before, months and months ago, and am resurrecting it:
Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow;
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.

We're very sorry to hear about your loss Falken. That certainly can be a painful thing to go through.
And if you will forgive me, I'd like to point out to people that they should not respond to trolls and have juvenile flame wars in people's threads. You know better. Report the trolls, ignore the trolls, but if you converse with the trolls, your posts are just as likely to get knocked out. Be responsible and respectful.

I have apologised to Falken for getting carried away in his thread already, actually.
Advice on how to make the site better? You mean someone actually cares? *gasp*

When I said "this tripe" in the edit, I meant the fighting that was going on, including what I had said. I would say it directly to falken and apologise privately through PM's if they existed anymore, but since they don't I'll say it here: sorry for being a dick on a post which was about your late grandfather. It wasn't necessary and I'm genuinely sorry to you.

Wise, please don't reprimand Gothic.net for trying to fix the mess made. I contacted the admins and asked that the posts by two shit-stirrers and the angry retorts made be seperated from a thread that requires modicum amount of decency. Their post was not directed at you personally, it was a warning to everyone.
Falken, I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. My great-Aunt (who I was rather close to) died not long ago and it was very upsetting. I think that this poem is a lovely way to remember someone who was clearly very close to you.

I appreciate what has been done to bring dignity back to the thread...
I had tried to post a more eloquent thank you earlier, but for some reason, the longer I take to write a message these days, the boards time out/I lose connection with them and when I go to hit submit reply, IE locks up as if there were nothing on the other end to send to...

All of my grandparents are dead now.
It was the one year 'anniversary' of my mum's mum yesterday.
I'm so sorry, Falken...

Awww, I'm sorry sweetie. I know how you feel. I have step grandparents and my real grandparents. Plus my dad's parents remarried. And it hurts a lot each time. I love your poem. It was beautiful.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I personally know the author of this poem it was published under annonomous (or however your spell it, reading it posted here has upset me a little) She is my aunt and it is inscribed on her pink headstone.
The poem is beautiful and meant to have those left behind relase the dieing so they can get on with their life and the one who passed go into the abyss of light (My anut's direct quote on letter sent to me).
I am pleased others have read it but I kind of got the impression the poster claimed it as her own. I could be wrong.
My symphathies to those who have lost a love one. I lost my darling father three years ago and it still hurts.
Find the peace where you can and remember, life never ends, death is but a new passageway.
