How come I appear to be the only one here that is just sitting quietly and gawking at the rest becuase she does not understand how people could discuss blood-drinking humans so seriously.
Methinks, it is abslolutely pathetic to go and drink blood and believe that one needs it and that one is a vampire or what ever else these deranged call themselves. One can be fascinated by "the dark side" (I will generalise) but that means realising the reality can be put aside???? For me, this is on the level of people thinking they are birds or cats. Such messed up individuals screw the charm of these animals.
These "vampires" are simply deranged and they ruin the wonderful image of the mythological vampire.
I would have never imagined that people that buisy themselves with believeing they are vampires and drinking blood existed......and now that I do it makes me want to puke.

And then these ridiculous terms of "psycho vampires" or whatever.......it terribly annoys me to have the word vampire stuck into everythingthingit can be squished into.
Through all of this the image of the vampire has turned into something banal and so chewed over that it isn't interesting anymore.

Actually, mythological vampyres are animals.
Even Dracula -as I've said before- was ulgy. It was his human nature, and Stoker's gift of giving such elegance to people, that made him the graceful figure he is today.
Even more so, it was Bela Lugosi and Anne Rice who enhanced the romantic figure of vampyres.
If vampyres exist, they are quite a beast.
On a side note, I'm not a vampanese, or any such thing, but it's a known thing among my friends that one of the nicest gifts they can give me is to let me taste their blood as long as it was not drawn by self harm.

As for myself, I was talking about literature. Fiction. I do not practice exsanguination. Just to be clear about me, myself and I.

Don't Look Behind You, people believe in many different things. Some believe that angels or demons or deities are talking to them, and telling them to torture, maim or slaughter other people. Some believe they are angels or demons or deities or whatever, and therefore have the right to harm other people and call it a good and holly deed.

Belief that one needs to drink a little blood from other humans is one of the less harmful ones, compared to some of the others.

To follow-up on angel's point-
Consider the following- Bush believes God told him to go to war. Consider how many are dead as a result. The extremists of any political or religious group who bomb the Hells out of people because they believe in their cause are just as dangerous- I'm Northern Irish, I've seen the bombsites and wreckage caused by 'belief'.
Compared to that, someone believing they require blood occasionally is pretty damn harmless.

Well, then you see my point on how down right stupid it is to believe one is a vampire. People that think they are dogs get shut up...and people that are absolutely convinced that they are vampires are no better.

And, actually, I wasn't talking solely about the outer appearance of vampires, but the whole idea. And I have absolutely nothing against modern authors altering the image to a more human and elegant being...as long it is fiction that stays in books and films and does not result with people running around and drinking blood becuase they believe they are vampires. Its like these stories in the news of children trying to fly out of windows on brooms after reading Harry Potter. It is a rather strong psychological illness to get too motivated and excited by what what one reads and not to be able to separate it from reality.

Yes, people believe in many stupid things. Infact, belief has formed the world and will continue doing so.
I hardly know any people tolarant to Bush's beliefs, which are, no doubt more harmfull then drinking blood, but certainly not more ridiculous. The harmfullness rate of stupidity is always hight. And so I can tolorate neither Bush nor people believing they are vampires. For some reason I can't even pity or want to analyse them. Usualy, this is not the case with me.

I don't drink blood, but I do have some characteristics of a psi (psychic or psionic vampire), especially when on stage, when I know I tend to "drink in" the emotions and energy of my audience. I believe we all do this though, to a certain degree. It's just that the psi's do it consciously and more than most people. However, if anyone's more interested in this topic, check out www.drinkdeeplyanddream.com and their forums.

I think I am the same way Miny, that is why I love hanging around young people: I gain energy, gain enthusiasm and power by being in proximity to people younger than myself. I have very close, good friends that are the same age as me, friends I have known 35 years, but...sometimes our conversations leave me disappointed in the world, I think it is a sapping of my strength. When I listen to the awesome music of the newest generation, their thoughts and opinions, I regain hope and optimism, so I may be psionic too...

I think all stage actors do this during performances - I certainly do. That's why performances rely so much on the energy levels of the audience, since the actors really do feed off it.

Aside from that though, all this sanguinarian stuff really does make the word 'whackjobs' spring to mind, but hey, as long as they're not really hurting anyone...
