Anyone here that's a Phantom Of The Opera fan should read the original book by Gaston Leroux, it inspired the play (though I'm guessing that most fans have already read it)

Well, I have read some Dante, and I love what I have read, didn't have the time to read more, but, in my opinion, the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice have been a good read. I concur, Paper Wings, Twilight was an amazing book, I loved it.

I'm in the process of reading Midnight In the Garden Of Good and Evil by John Berendt and it is alot better then I thought it was going to be. I find myself laughing outloud, mind you I probably shouldn't be laughing at these parts but oh well.

Yep, I've read the whole series of that & I have to say it was truely amazing.
The Demonata series he's written is another set of wonderful fantasy stories, the descriptions of the demons genuinely freak me out!
The whole of the His Dark Materials series is must too.
I'm half way through The Magic Kingdom by Stanley Elkin & it's not failing to dissapoint!

"Sabriel", "Lirael", and "Abhorsen" by Garth Nix.
Just finished reading these - was completely blown away. They are absolutely incredible. I have no words to describe them adequately. JUST READ THEM! They revolve around death and the powers in death and the power of being able to control death. These books impressed me beyond Lord of the Rings or anything else I've read in general fantasy.
The Obsidian Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey.
Great fantasy, well written, fast paced, intriguing characters.
"White As Snow" by Tanith Lee.
No other retelling of the fairy tale of Snow White has ever quite struck me so hard. This book also incorporates the Greek myth of Demeter and Persephone into the story. It's dark, mature, and the characters become creepingly real.

You're welcome.
Garth Nix is an all-around astounding writer. I don't know that I'd say he writes in a goth or gothic style, but the way he speaks of death is superbly different and amazingly real. I wish they'd make that trilogy into a set of good movies. The only thing is with all the death and gore (mostly consisting of rotten, falling-apart bodies inhabited by bound spirits) involved they'd be NC-17. Haha.

I'm into the classical horrors, so I recommend:
~ "The Mysteries of Udolphu" by Ann Radcliffe -- I'm in the middle of it and I can't put the damned thing down!
~ "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley
~ "Dracula" by Bram Stoker -- read it twice. Read it once just as it is, and then read it the second time, thinking of every instance of blood consumption as an erotic act.
~ "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. Another haunting novel.
~ "The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Lereux. Nothing like the plays/movies/etc.
~ "Paradise Lost" by John Milton
~ "The Monk" by Matthew Gregory Lewis

The Belgaraid and The Mallorian series by David Eddings.Both series have 5 books but they are really good also you can try Ellenium series, and Dark Elf trilogy by R.A Salvatore is really good.

'Faerie Wars' by Herbie Brennan is an excellent read. Yes, it's aimed at a young audience, but alot of the content is something at can appeal to all age groups. It's definitely one of my favourites.

The books I most reccomend:
I hope someone will consider this options, for tese books are the ones that made me who I am today; really.
First and foremost- All of the four books of the Hyperion Saga!! By Dan Simmons. There's no literary device or technique you won't find in these books. They really contain everything you can imagine: from violence to poetry, from a love story to a guy who can only say seven bad words, from The Crucifix which grants eternal life to an AI that only speaks in koans.
Oh, yeah, and, in the second book, John Keats is the protagonist!!!
Second book- Schrodinger's Cat. Anton Wilson (who I have already learned of, as he's also an individualist anarchist) is the guy for which I got obsessed with Quantum Physics. He's the guy that turned me into a Nihilist.
The Picture of Dorian Grey- Well, you all know about Oscar Wilde.
