Annoying Schoolgirl Time!
Hello, hello my lovely chewtoys. I must ask a favour of you all:
Would you mind filling out this tincey-wincey, easy-peasy, hardly-time-consuming-at-all survey..?
*pulls puppy dog eyes*
The Questions:
What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture?
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth?
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different?
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'?
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be?
~
Well, that wasn't too painful was it?

What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture?
Its music, which despite being competely different from one another, still has that je ne sais quoi that links it all together.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth?
Well, I wish they knew that an attraction to the dark and sardonic doesn't equate to an obsession with it.
I would also like that everyone had the clichéd gothic fear of mediocrity.
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different?
I was reading before I could talk well (yah, I talked weird). It was only logical that I would eventually read Poe and Wilde. Books that are "gothic" in genre have never interested me, though (like Anne Rice).
I used to listen only to classical music. Romantic songs more than Classical - Tchaikovsky instead of Beethoven.
I began dressing in black a couple of years ago, but not in a gothic fashion. It was in a Bohemian sense. People began to call me a goth. First I didn't like the term because I did think goths were just death obsessed people wearing black without knowing the intellectual aristocracy the color black has earned since the Renaissance.
I began to search for some things about what is goth, and found the definitions I found to be great.
So I said to myself "I shall become a goth, and try to bring it's intellectual, civilized entity to the spotlights."
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'?
Music and fashion. Emo in itself, I like. the problem is that there are basically no original Emos anymore.
Emo is more dead than punk.
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be?
To have the powers of a God without the responsibilities.
Well, that wasn't too painful was it?
Well, actually I wanted to research something I forgot already. But I love you so I had rather done this.

The Questions:
What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture?
The Music and the Noir Macabre... although, the classic beauty was an adopted after effect of the base culture, and the one sharp metal barb the laymen finds him/herself snaged upon.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth?
If you didn't stumble on the life on your own accord.. you don't belong, so don't try. (Yes this is a fairly strong statment, but if you are ment to be... you know it.)
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different?
Movies...Music... and Literature. I think all three are a requirement to understand the spectrum has a whole.
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'?
A goth isn't stupid. ;P Goths whine, but Emo's bitch like little girls.. plus there is little culture behind their made up tree house cult.. And they taste bad.
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be?
The death or disappearence of Paris Hilton. (I really don't wish her harm, but I have an issue with any slut whom rises as she has for accomplishing nothing..)

What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture?
Well for me it's the clothes. I think out of all sorts of 'groups' fashions have nothing on gothic clothing. It can be extravegant or basic yet still look appealing & unique. It sets 'goth' aside from many other things.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth?
That it's been around for a while! Lots of people I know think it's such a recent thing that was started by H.I.M! I've talked about goth being around in the 80's & the fashions & music from then. but many people get abit confused whenever I mention stuff like that.
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different?
Hmmm, I was dressing a bit similarly beforehand. But the thing that really pushed me was listening & watching Evanescence...I heard that they had the label of goth stuck to them, but I wasn't even properly sure what it was. I started dressing like the lead singer & discovered similar groups & fashions to them, but were more...'authentic' if you catch my drift. Soon I was longing for a corset & listening to Siouxsie
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'?
Goth has more variation & will probably outlive emo in my opinion. It's just a trend that many shall out grow. A 34 year old emo looks a tad pathetic, but I think a 34 year old goth some how works.
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be?
I wish people would be a bit more thoughtful/considerate. I say it seriously! I'm annoyed at the amount of people out there who just think of themselves. It's not nice.
Well, that wasn't too painful was it?
No it wasn't. If anything it was actually quite enjoyable! Thank you for asking the questions!

What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture?
ANSWER:That it introduces one to beautiful music, and subsequently, to think outside the norm, which in turn leads one to live outside the norm. It is a different doorway leading to an amazing place, although it isn't the destination, but the journey that is fun.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth?
ANSWER: That it is composed of very intelligent, and (mostly) compassionate people.
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different?
ANSWER: Music. (Thank you Siouxie! Thank you Peter Murphy! I want to be you when I grow up! )
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'?
ANSWER: Emo has taken just a small part of Goth, and discarded the best parts. Emo emphasizes just the dark emotions without the reflection or thought, has taken just a touch of the fashion, and has also taken a different direction in terms of music. I think that music always evolves, and some good comes out of Emo for listeners, but as a lifestyle overall, there are a lot of gaps, whereas I can spend a lifetime learning about things Gothic.
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be?
ANSWER: Peace
Well, that wasn't too painful was it?
ANSWER: Since I am currently sedated, I cannot feel any pain.

What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture? I'd have to say the music.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth? That its not what they think it is. That its a music based subculture rooted in with Gothic Rock, which is NOT the same thing as death metal, which everyone unfamilliar with Goth music I've come in contact with has thought so far.
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different? One word: Bauhaus
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'? Music, attire, and mindset. There aren't exactly any similarities whatsoever.
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be? I think that things are good as they are. If something were to change so suddenly due to a wish then the world would become too different, which might be for the worst. Even if there is only a chance that things will be for the worst, why take the chance when things are already somewhat stable?

The only thing that Emo and Goth have in common that makes most mainstrem people use them almost as synonyms are their bastardizations.
Goth is dark. Death is dark. Therefore some people decided to "become" gothic and began with idiocies like wanting to die and cutting their veins.
Emo is emotional. Depression is an emotion. Stupid teenagers began thinking emotions only include depression, sadness, solitude, blah blah blah... Some people decided to become 'Emo' and decided to do idiocies like cutting themselves and look 'darker' to look more emotional/depressive.
So, you see, the real problem are teenagers.
Whiny little brats, they are.

What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture?
The music and style of dress.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth?
That most people who are into to it are because they like it, not for attention or negative reasons. Also, not everyone who is into goth is depressed and sad.
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different?
A Projekt records compilation
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'?
Pretty much everything.
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be?
People would be more understanding about the goth subculture.

What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture?
- Music, outlook code and a certain "code of behaviour", even though it's pretty vague.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth?
- "We are not evil, so stop stalking us."
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different?
- Lovecraft's literature, Helium Vola (does that count?) and Bauhaus.
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'?
- Is there anything but difference?
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be?
- Every firearm, every nuclear/bioweapon etc. would disappear, and the only thing left to fight with would be knives, swords and martial arts. That way, no civilians would "accidently" perish in some others' quarrels.
Well, that wasn't too painful was it?
- Quess not.

What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture?
-I would have to say the music
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth?
-Not all goths are the people are that want to hurt themselves or commit suicide. Also, goths are not all of the murderers in this world.
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different?
-The music brought me into it. Bauhaus, Sanctuary, Nosferatu, and Babylonian Tiles.
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'?
-I think a better question would be "What are the similarities between Emos and Goths?"
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be?
-People would be a bit more quiet, it gets annoying when people don't get the message that you don't care about what they are talking about.

I know it's a little late, but I figured I'd contribute my 2 cents anyway.
What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture? The dark aesthetic. Goth as we know it would never exist without the "look," however much it may vary. I'm not here to argue and compile a definitive list of what is and isn't Goth.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth? This is probably pretty cliche, but I wish everyone knew that we're not all morose and boring, or psychopathic devil-worshipping murderers.
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different? Music. I started listening to punk in the 7th grade and it kind of evolved from there.
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'? 9_9 *sigh* Okay. First of all, Emo as it's known today really has very little history behind it. It's generally agreed that the first Emo band was Weezer, which I love, and which really sounds nothing like the newer wave of Emo bands. Their music was a lot more about adorably geekish social ineptitude than whiny self-pity. Anyway, I sort of digress. Goths as a rule are, well, older than Emo kids; there aren't any strictly Emo clubs; Emo culture doesn't have any canonical literary works (unless you want to count Myspace XD), art, architecture, or historical figures associated with it, etc. I'm rambling. I'll shut up now.
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be? Ummm.... world peace?

The Questions:
Some opinions in responce!
What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture?
Its lack of focus. The wide lense of variety in the 'scene' allows for enough room that it never really dies even if sections of it tend to atrophy from time to time.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth?
That there are three phases of Goth.
Phase 1 - Larvae - Usually achieved in the teenage years, sometimes later. The Larval stage takes their Goth VERY seriously, often to the point of extreme defensiveness and sensitivity.
Phase 2 - Dormant Chrysalis - At some stage a larvae says 'I'm fucking sick of all this shit' and will flat out deny being goth, no matter how many similarities or outlooks he/she still shares on matters with Goths. usually this is where many of the overly dramatic trapings of Larval gothhood are shed.
Phase 3 - Adult - The adult lifecycle usually begins by emerging from a Dormant Chrysalis with the words, "Fuck. I'm goth." At this stage most of the things which the individual specimen was sensitive and defensive about in the Larval stage are now very humorous and accepted. While the adult phase occaisonally displays the brighter plumage of the larval phase (noteably on weekends and holidays) these are usually more obsiqious and able to mingle with exceptional camoflage amongst "normal society" yet still clearly be Gothic.
It should be noted that age and time are not accurate measures of the three phase cycle, some going through it in months, others over the course of a decade. Several leading Professors at the Cambridge Institute of Gothology are proposing pseudo 4th stages such as 'parenthood' 'pervert' and 'lawyer' with other mutations being discovered regularly.
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different?
Literature initially, with more adventerous forays into music and then the club scene.
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'?
Goths cry because they are happy. Emos cry to cry. Emos will sit in a corner and be lifes bitch. Goths will merrily gnaw lifes arm off and then proceed to club life with the bloody stump, delicately licking themselves clean in the aftermath. Goths don't take others bullshit or feel some need to IMHO.
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be?
Drop bears.

What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture?
How accepting most Goths are... they aren't the typical intolerant bas*tards that I run into.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth?
That Goths aren't all satanist school shooters... >_>
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different?
What had introduced me to it was one of my now best friends, Christina... I was like in the sixth grade then.
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'?
To quote the urbandictionary...
Emo: Everybody hates me... *cuts self*
Goth: I hate everybody... *cuts them*
xD
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be?
Tolerance towards everybody.

I think Rites of Spring, although technically only hardcore punk, could be considered the first emo band; just as Joy Division, although technically only post-punk, was the first band to be called Gothic.

The Questions:
What do you believe is the most important aspect of the Gothic Subculture? <---The willingness to accept those who are genuinly accepting of others based on their personalities.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Goth? <---That black isn't an evil color. MOTHER GIMME A BREAK FROM THE DAMN BAN!!!
What introducted you to Goth: music, literature or something different? <---The beautiful clothing, make-up, music, ...literature not so much...tis boring read, and the generally nice attitudes of the goths I have encountered in my life. Kill the cheerleaders!!! 2/3 of the freshman cheerleaders made my life shit from 4th-8th grade.
What do you think is the main difference between Goth and 'Emo'? <---Emo is stupid, they want attention from cutting and their popular "dark" clothing, they complain a lot constantly about the people around them whether they have done anything wrong or not.
If you could wish one thing upon the world, what would it be? <---To stop the stupid people from reproducing making more stupid people. If their would be no stupid people in the world, less fights would be fought be they wars or not, not so much pollution, less suicide from teens from hostile social environments, and no cheaters and rapists. May cheaters and rapists have a more painful realm of hell then anyone else.
