Best Band Ever

The stupidity of the author of the other thread enrages me.
Just read the first page of that thread. Idiocy incarnate.
So I decided to make a good thread with a good poll of good genres. Of course I cannot name all genres, but I think it's better than the other one.
My top ten for bands are:
1- London After Midnight
2- Lacrimosa
3- The Dresden Dolls
4- Bloody Dead and Sexy (recent discovery)
5- Cinema Strange/ The Deadfly Ensemble (what I like is the vocalist, which is the same one)
6- Siouxsie and the Banshees
7- The Cruxshadows
8- The Mission UK
9- Alien Sex Fiend
10- Nox Arcana

Ah, Jillian darling, you have delivered us all from the hell of the stupidity that was 'the other thread'.

However I believe that a 'greatest band ever' doesn't exist, so I'll just accept this thread as a 'Favourite Bands' thread instead.

My own top ten (sort of in order, but not really):
1. AFI (Black Sails/Art of Drowning era ONLY)
2. Rozz Williams and all his affiliations
3. Sex Gang Children
4. Siouxsie and the Banshees
5. Current 93
6. Qntal
7. Cinema Strange
8. The Cure
9. Placebo
10. A whole mess of deathrock/gothic rock/new wave bands that I really can't rate against each other: 45 Grave, Specimen, the Vanishing, Theatre of Hate, 1919, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, 13th Chime, Black Ice, London After Midnight, Alien Sex Fiend, Ausgang, Shriekback, Oingo Boingo, Corvus Corax, Dead Can Dance, etc, etc, etc.

That was an extremely difficult list to write.

I'd have to agree...narrowing a list of thousands to ten...or eleven...is a bit hard!

That's the fun of it.
Though it is hard.
I placed Christian Death as number six, but other bands kept pushing it down.

Mindless Self Indulgence is my favorite. The musical style is just what I love. I love their anti-politics stance, and it's just goddamned humorous at points. Perfect blend of secksy.

sigh, gone are the days when I could say MSI and nobody knew what I was talking about >.>

I voted for darkwave. Well, I also love dark ambient, rockabilly, so- called "celtic" and post- punk, but they weren't in the list, so darkwave it was.

Favourite bands/ singers

Siouxsie and the Banshees
Elvis Presley
The Cramps
Black Tape for a Blue Girl
Devics
Dresden Dolls
Voltaire
Leonard Cohen
Sarah McLaughlan
Dead Can Dance/ The Cure/ Bauhaus/ Cocteau Twins/ London After Midnight/ Dakrya/ Autumnblaze and a whole lot of others

Hard choice, since I like metal, but different sorts of metal, like black, death, gothic, industrial etc.

Oh well, my favorite band is still Insomnium.

Avenged Sevenfold.... hrm. A little hair-metal for my taste. Although I'm not sure that I could actually compile a list of my top ten bands. It's too difficult. Lately I have mainly been listening to Cindergarden and Cylab, but I am sure that is soon to change. Every so often I long for some good older stuff, so I pull out The Cure, Mission UK, Fields of the Nephilim and ths like... So hard to stay focused.

1. Pearl Jam
2. Alice In Chains
3. Exodus
4. Soundgarden
5. Black Flag
6. Bethlehem
7. Deftones

I've said this before, but my favorite bands aren't always representitive of my tastes. Same with my favorite songs. It's the same for most people though.
