"Goth isn't usually about the bands you listen to, it is more your outlook on life and fascination with the dark and macabre."
Goth IS about music at first. Where do you think did it come from?
And mallgoth is hmm the same as a goth poser.
Now, you say, the things on your introduction are joke? And if we would say "Wow, so cool, you're so goth! I love you!" you would say this all is real. And i think it is.
Without getting know the person?
But the introduction let us know you!

Not to mention if you know so little of the history that you think Bodom is a goth band, and argue when people tell you otherwise, you're gonna be stranded as a babbybat for eternity.

And assuming this is true, you have to realize that people on here only have what you say about yourself to go by. If you describe yourself a certain way, that is how you will be received. If you don't give any other clues, nobody will have anything else to judge you by. So don't be surprised if you are judged based on what you said in the introduction.

That said, I picked up on the fact that you sounded like a fairly decent person in your writing style, despite the sort of 'mallgoth' things you had in your introduction. So that was a way to make a better judgement about you. But not everyone picks up on those kinds of things, so you'll want to be careful.

Since the bands you listen to have a lot to do with your outlook on life, I would say that yes, goth is also about the bands you listen to. If all you listen to is metal (and I'm not saying that's the case here), then your outlook on life would not likely be the type of outlook a goth would have. Metal is different from goth in that respect. Goth is not just about the dark and macabre, because if it were then all serial killers would be goths. And they're not, trust me.

I'm not saying I'm a goth but how can I be a poser when I isolate myself from most people, aren't posers usually "goth" to be cool and get peoples attention. And forgive me but can someone tell me what a mallgoth is? I'm guessing, someone who hangs around a mall dressed in black, as I said I isolate myself from people and I was homeschooled
I think you're more likely to be doing what you're doing for the right reasons if you're not doing it to gain popularity. You say you're isolated from most people, and although that doesn't make you a goth per se, it is one of the things goths experience.

There is a whole thread on 'mallgoth' in the music section, so you may want to go there to get an idea of what it is about. In short, 'mallgoth' is basically:

1. Kids who think they're goths but have no idea what goth really is, who listen to the latest bands being hyped at mall stores like Hot Topic and dress themselves accordingly, and:

2. Bands that are not goth bands, but who get hyped at Hot Topic and who mallgoths listen to because it is implied that this is what goths listen to.

Goths can like mallgoth bands and not be mallgoths. Mallgoths can like goth bands and not be goths. It's the whole picture that counts, not just one element.

If you are inclined to be a goth, then you'll be one, and maybe you are one already. If not, then you never will, as hard as you may try. It's not something you should ever force either way.

This is another idiocy I have seen that has become quite trendy lately. There is nothing wrong with people judging. What should be unacceptable is that people now fail to give a good first impression.
Instead on working in the art of introduction, people now avoid that whole issue by saying judgmental people are bad.
If you didn't want us to "confuse you by who you said you were in your introduction" then why in Hell did you write all those things that seem to go way off from who you really are?
To prove a point?
I don't think so.
That point has been proven so many times that the only thing you trying to prove it again tells me is that you are highly unimaginative.

Thank you, Jilli!

What a ridiculous thing to do. Why would you write an intro saying something, and then applauding your cleverness when people treat you as though the words you wrote were yours? Why would you call people out on being "judgmental" because they thought that, based on what you told them, you were a certain way?

[quote=GoThIcVaMpIrE] I hate bad grammar but when you're in a hurry and your keyboard doesn't work properly it gets really hard, also when talking about myself I don't capitalise my I because I feel I'm not worthy so I refer to myself as i (I'm Anorexic, this trait of not capitalising I is mentioned in a book called "To Die For" by Carol Lee). /QUOTE]

Well, we all need more irony in our diets.

It's a poor workman who blames his tools, and being in a hurry is never an excuse for bad writing. As someone who grew up in the 1970s and '80s (the era of typewriters, Corrasable Bond, Wite-out, and the miraculous ink eraser- you young people can Google such antiquities), I have little sympathy for anyone who is incapable of using the backspace or delete buttons on their keyboards.

Also, I have read the book you referenced, and I wish you well in your battle against anorexia. However, I think that the use of the lowercase 'i' by teenage girls is less indicative of low self-esteem than a tendency of this age group to employ a twee affectation.

ee cummings pretty much cornered the market on the lowercase 'i' in the 1920s. Why bother?

If you'll excuse me, I need to put on my ratty bathrobe and slippers, shuffle out to the front porch, and yell at those damn kids who keep messing up my yard.

I have a nugget of wisdom to dispense: "ee cummings" never referred to himself as such (that is, he liked his name capitalized all nice-like). It made his publishers giggle, so to speak, so they began using it against his wishes.

Oh, and I was far too bored by the starter of this topic to read more than a few posts. I apologize if I've offended anyone interesting.

For some reason, I believe that this would likely have only happened on the Internet.

I think this might go best in the randomness thread. (bad joke)
