You know I never understood the whole cutting yourself deal, what does it do for people, I mean REALLY?

Sometimes the person cutting feels it makes them feel better about whatever their problem is. However, if they're doing it for attention, it's really obvious, and in that case, their only motivation is likely attention, which may or may not be a serious problem in itself.

I like it when kids who cut themselves wear those really tacky braselets and when somebody askes them what they are hiding they say (with a deep tormented expression) "you don't want to know"

What- the obnoxiously loud, vibrant annoying bracelets that conveniently shift to show off a scratch?

Those were, like, totally accidental and stuff.

Seriously, it almost bothers me more when people cut for pointless attention than when people cut because they don't know what else to do and are feeling stuck in a situation. Those who fake it for giggles and some kind of crap credability or just the "Look at Meeeeee" thing make it harder to help those who really need the help.

And those who really need the help tend to keep quiet about it anyway for fear of being found out or worse- lumped into the attention whores.

And those that want attention to get help don't post about liking it, they post about wanting ways to stop "something" that is almost never named.

...
Oh wait wrong thread, maybe...Nope I read it again and I lost another life.
Girl you have some issues. I have had a friend die from cutting herself and it isn't pretty for those left behind. Just keep that in mind. And I know you are a poser, so don't try and tell me your not.

I wonder why she didn't come back. I really hope it was shame. The funny thing is I bet she expceted people on this forum to support her, I mean this IS a gothic forum and we ALL know that goths are deeply dark and disturbed.

People who have no idea as to what goth is, cut themselves. This has nothing to do with goth and I don't think the goth subculture has a larger share of cutters as opposed to other groups.

Having said that, I'll share a quote with you all.

Sin lies only in hurting other people unnecessarily. All other sins are invented nonsense. Hurting yourself is not sinful--just stupid. - Robert Heinlein

Very very good quote. I like quotes that you can apply to almost anything. I have heard only a handful of quotes that I unwillingly remembered for years simply because I could apply them to my life so easily.

What annoys me most about this post is that she used a simley wearing sunglasses, immediately indicating how cool it is that she cuts herself. Something good may come out of this post in the end however. The disparaging replies have vastly improved my esteem for the general atmosphere of this forum. Just about any other "goth" forum would have been filled with replies like "Omg I cut myself too like all the time. i cut myself soo much my mom sent me to a therpist.fuck that now i just cut myself more. my whole body is covered in cuts, so much that i look like edward sizzer hand. P.S what kind of razer do u use????"
Thank you everyone for being amazingly more cool than I ever imagined an internet goth community could be.

Have you looked in the mirror lately? Do you realise how much of a cry for attention this thread really is? Get a life, get a job.. get tattoo's. Dont put yourself in the crying little retard category.. we have enough of those walking around.

If you cut yourself because it feels good, sure thats fine but why flaunt it? people who flaunt the fact they cut themselves are attention seeking losers.

Ha. Oh wow, this has gotten interesting. This girl is like some friends I once had, they wore those stupid braceletts and were constantly coming up to me and showing me their new 'art work' it really pissed me off at the time since I had just gotten over trying to kill myself. Now the people who think that cutting is cool are just an amusing little place for me to unload about how incredibly stupid attention seeking really is.

I have to disagree, MCR isn't ok. Personal opinion aside, what's real emo? People who REALLY have emotional problems? Puh-lease, give me a break. Stop with the emo, it's over already.

Emo, just as goth, is nothing but a musical style who which people apply a lot of other attributions to feel better about themselves. Then there's of course similarities past music in each subculture (just like our cool fancy for literature) but the only way to define Emo is to use Occam's Razor (no pun intended)
