Anyway, I'm not trying to insult you much less change your thoughts though I feel perhaps that's the intention for it: to create an eerie, melancholy sound. Are their any bands in particular you're referring too? As you prevanetly know, Goth rock focuses as well on death, exatensialism, nihilism, etc.

Very true, however, part of the problem was that they didn't have the money to buy gothic clothing, so it's not likely they'd have money for a sewing machine (if they don't have one), fabric to practice on, then fabric to make clothes with, and all of the adornments.
It's not impossible, but it's still a shitty situation.

I was wondering if Maggot had an explanation in that area of the genre.

clothing modifications. The romantic/victorian look is harder to mod out, but the death rock and cyber styles are kinda easy to pull off with enough ingenuity and shopping at a hardware store.
