Fresh Meat

Hello everyone. I'm Cryptic and I just joined this forum...of course. Allow me to answer the introductory questions:

1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)
Performance arts. I'm a theatre major in college, so I've spent alot of time in the past year building a resume. I'm currently working with some friends to start a burlesque troop. We hope to have our first show debuted in a couple months. I'm also a drummer, so I'm looking to start another band in the near future. I need to buy some new gear first. I'm a first time business owner. My partner and I make clothing and coordinate local events. We're brand new, so our website isn't finished yet. It's pretty exciting. I game once a week and love to go dancing. Currently, I'm into DIY hair falls. I want to make dread falls from yarn. I'll check out the threads on that later. As for a day job, I'm a self-employed clerical assistant and I also work at the friendly neighborhood movie rental store.

2. Where are you from?
Atlanta, Ga. Now living in Austin, Tx

3. Who is your favorite author?
Currently, Neil Gaiman

4. What are your favorite films?
The Crow, Serenity, Crybaby, Gone with the Wind, and Tank Girl (to name a few)

5. What music do you want played at your wedding?
celtic folk music

6. At your funeral?
"Lay me Low" Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?
Saving someone else. I want an honorable death. I want to go out with purpose. And yes, it can be bloody!

8. What kind of casket would you want?
Honestly, I don't see any reason for barriers between my flesh and the earth, but we all know that's not legal. I suppose a casket with AC and a sun roof.

9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?
the one that makes me look more innocent than I really am

10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?
Well, I still eat alot of ice cream. I go to the playground and swing occasionally, and yes, I still play kickball. A child's reality is certainly different than that of an adult. I guess I wish the world still held some of the mysteries that it did for me as a child. Also, the freedom to just be in the world and exist without the pressure of finding my "place".

11. What's your favorite band?
Yeah...like I can answer THIS question.

12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?
(As mentioned above) Theatre major in college. Is this subject to change? Absolutely. I'm incredibly indecisive and inquisitive. I want to learn everything...all at once. I drive myself crazy.

13. Why did you join?
To meet new people and pick their brains for information...and share some of my own if they need it.

14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?
Female

any other questions? I think that just covered alot of ground.

Nice to meet you, and I will see you around.

Welcome. I too enjoy hair falls. I'm in the middle of finishing a pair of dread falls, actually. What is your preference? Plastic? Foam? Tubular crin? Synthetic kk fibre? Yarn? I'll be making some cyberlox for my next project.

Right now I want to make dread yarn falls. I've found some really great instructions for synthetic hair, but no luck with yarn. There are a couple of things I'm unsure of: 1) other materials besides yarn and lace . do I need anything else? 2) procedure. how is it different from synthetic?

Eventually, I'd love to experiement with foam, plastic, tubes, etc. Maybe even electrical tape.

There's a seperate thread for this I'm sure. I'm curious to check it out when I have a little more time.

You know, I never got around to finish those yarn dreads...

I have a shit load to finish. My problem is wanting to make some that actually look decent and actually go on my head. Even now, I don' think my hair is long enough for your traditional falls. I need to find some weft clips.

(

BTW, a super welcome to you. A theater major? I like you already. I love theater people. You're pretty much living my unspoken dream, lady.

I haven't tried yarn yet, but I believe you would be interested in the roving technique. For that you will most likely need to purchase the yarn online. Regular yarn doesn't work for that technique unless all you're interested in is braids.

Try your local beauty supply shop. They're rather inexpensive.

Neil Gaiman is wondrous, as are hair falls! My friend knows someone who's going to teach us how to make them. ^_^ Post pics when you're done! Welcome!

Yes, my sig is from "Girl Anachronism". You know your music, Dancing_In_Rain

Neil Gaiman is amazing. Once I finish Anansi Boys, I want to read Stardust. It's been made into a film and it premieres this summer. Maybe you already knew that which means you might see me in the theatre sucking on sour straws, mid to back row, center.

I wish that Joss Whedon would continue the story of Serenity, but there's no news of him changing his mind. A girl can dream, right? If there are any men out there with the honor, courage, and leadership of Captain Malcom Reynolds, please don't hesitate to wed me...*cough* I mean call me.

And I will definately post pics of the falls I make. Please post some of yours!

I love the Dresden Dolls...I can relate to a lot of Amanda Palmer's lyrics. Please give them full credit in your signature though, so that others who do not know where the lyrics are from can know. And maybe discover the Dresden Dolls that way. One of the reasons I first started listening to their music was becase I read Underwater Ophelia's signature and it piqued my "satiable curtiosity" (Rudyard Kipling - The Elephant's Child).

I loved Coraline, by Gaiman. It traumatised me but made me think a lot. Welcome!

Heh heh. I am pretty cool. By which I mean, I love the Dresden Dolls. They're on hiatus for now, though, and doing separate projects. Amanda is going to be releasing a solo album.

Good point. I'll do that. thank you.

I first found out about Dresden Dolls a few years ago. I was working in a cafe and one of our regular customers was a promoter. He gave me a DVD of their video for "Girl Anachronism". I was so impressed.

Coraline sounds like an incredibly haunting novel. I've put it on my literary wish list. From what I've read of Gaiman thus far, I've noticed a pattern with which he writes. Seem likes he's trying something different with Coraline. I'm definately curious to find out either way if the pattern holds true for this novel as well.
