depends on what all you're willing to have done to your hair. The possibilities are truley endless.

Are you willing to cut?
Are you willing to bleach?
Are you willing to fry, dye, and lay to the side????
Do you have super long hair?
What kind of hair do you have?
Oily?
Dry?
Damaged?
Over colored?
These are all questions you should consider while making a decision at to what you want to do with your hair.

I would suggest taking a look at pictures of different hair styles to see if you get a feel for any of them and modify accordingly to suite your own specific taste.

I would highly advise against cutting it yourself unless you know what you're doing. There's a HUGE difference between cutting someone else's hair and cutting your own.

What you might want to do is ask someone who they go to. There's no harm in shopping around- even if it takes forever. In the end it's worth it. When looking around, if possible, ask to see the stylist's portfolio.

Yes, I do use a mild relaxer once every 2 months or so but it is MILD with no lye in it. DO NOT use lye and I don't really think they sell that any more anyway. What the mild Fabulaxer does is "calm my hair down" a bit so that it is not so unruley and lays flatter.

I never said for anyone to straighten their hair with a clothes iron.
It can be done, yes, but I don't advise it. You can't just go warming up the iron and applying it directly on the hair. That's just bad news all over. If you absolutely insist on using a clothes iron, have someone help you out with this, put it on the lowest setting, lay your hair out, put a layer or two of wax paper over the hair, then do a pass or two.

Mind you- you CANNOT go all the way to the scalp. Just don't even try it. I've known people who have and it just spelt doom.

blooyysnow- if you do it once, it won't break off on the spot, but why chance it. You can go to your local target and get a hair straightener for 25$. I use the Conair Wet2Straight 1" Straightener. It works like a dream.

I wouldn't reccomend using a razor to get layers. There is a special type of razor-like tool that stylists use to give hair that choppy look. Its like those scissors that make the crinkley edges for scrap booking, but it's just one piece. Either way. Just do some research on good stylists in the area. Or if you want to go the less expensive route- go to a beauty school.
