I like a lot of old school goth music, some I like more than MAnson or NIN, the point is, I am sick of people bashing Manson's music with personal attacks on him, I couldn't care if you bashed Holywood or The Golden Age of Grotesque, I'd agree with you, but people always have to take it beyond just music. And that MySpace project needs to be updated... I haven't even logged into that for a few days x_x

Well one thing to say is Manson and his music is not goth. Manson is shock rock, like at haunted houses that scare people with skeletons suddenly poping out of hidden doors. Heck Manson removed his lower rib so he could give himself oral. He also bears a striking resemblance to Rasputin the monk who was one of the major contributors to the rising of the USSR. His actions also bear a striking resemblance to that of rasputin.

I'm pretty sure that was just a rumour.

Well either way he looks too much like Rasputin.

I never bothered with Manson because his music never appealed to me so I don't think I'll bother with this song, either. What pisses me off is when I say that I really don't like Manson at all, certain people have told me its ONLY because I like Bauhaus, etc and thats what I'm SUPPOSED to say.

The thing of the ribs is just a rumor.
So, I didn't like the song. Marilyn Manson has lost his talent.
I hate when people seem to only like the old stuff of some bands. To me it seems to be just something people say to sound cooler.
But with Manson, it's true.
To me, it just all went downhill after Twiggy Ramirez left.

I stopped listening to Manson after the release of Mechanical Animals. I lost interest. Same thing happened with NIN. With Teeth was a terrible album.

I have nothing against Marilyn Manson. I listen to a bit of his stuff every now and then, and this new album sounds like it could be interesting. I'll definitely check it out.

Blaming him for giving the subculture a bad name is ridiculous. If anything it was the fans, and even then it was only because the mainstream culture misconstrued what goth was in the first place.

I love the song "Nobodies" by Manson. At least I think that's what it's called. Anyway, that's a cool song.

I just listened to a leak of "Eat Me, Drink Me".

It's... emotional. I don't know what to really say. It's not as heavy as the previous things he's done.

It came off as awkward to me.

I downloaded the whole album from Soul Seek a few days ago, I love the album, it's sort of like Mechanical Animals with the softer side of Holywood with a hint of Portrait of an American family, and a new feel due to Tim Skold being on guitar, which he is awesome at. And there's guitar solos and, like NIN there's a lot of pessimistic love lyrics. I'm impressed, it's better than his last album, has more depth too and it's easy to listen to.

I'm not going to argue MM is goth, because I don't think it is, but that doesn't change the fact I like the music all the same. I like goth and I like loads of other stuff too, no not all manson songs are good. And maybe his fans did give goth a bad reputation, but that wasn't anything I did, and its not going to stop me listening to the songs I do like.
The new song, well its not my favourite but its ok.

I keep seeing mentions of his new music being slower and more emotional, and would just like to mention something my friend said in a conversation we were having on Saturday, we were on the internet talking abouy whatever (I think he was bragging about how the front-man from rosetta stone complimented him on his band) and we got to the topic of Mansons new music, in particular "Heart Shaped Glasses", my friend, is an enigma, I have never met a man who new more about the culture than him, he lives and eats goth, the people in our local scene who were in the scene when it made its first run are amazed how much he knows, and how much he can put into a conversation, he is also the biggest Mansonite I know, and his input was that Manson was trying to get back into the Goth Rock genre, which apparently he was regarded as until shortly after either his signing of a major label, or the "Tainted Love" video (the limo with the "GOTH" liscense plate was a bit much). And I trust his statement, given the circumstances of what he know about; ie: Gothic Culture, and Marilyn Manson. Personally I can see manson as a person as goth, but definately not the music he's made in the past.

Oh yeah, my friend also said there is no chance of his comeback catching with the culture, because everyone hates him so much... I agree with that statement.

"Heart Shaped Glasses". What a terrible song (and video). It sounds like it's on the verge of indie rock, in my opinion. Perhaps Manson is trying to ease his way into the latest trend.

Heart Shaped Glasses was indeed horrible, but I have the entire album and I assure you, that song is very out of place on the album as none of the other songs are like it. Most of the other stuff is more Gothic Metal but Manson'ed up.

Good goth...I can honestly say I hate the current 'indie' rock fad. It's really really really really really ignorant. These bands aren't even indepdent, how the hell do they consider themselves 'indie'? I mean, I liked some work like early Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse, but now what they pull out sounds nothing like they're better work, which had, I most definately can say explored each theme intelligentlly. Manson trying to be indie rock? Woe. Woe, what pitiful dreaded news hath I behold on such a day of disappointment. Why o why must Manson now stoop to such a level? I must say that I love his performances, very theatrical. But guys, the gnostic tones have been more explored with intelligent and profound sounds and lyrics with the deathrock and goth legend band Christian Death. I have a feeling Manson occasionally rips off Rozz's work and image without even citing it. He just makes the blashphemic tones much more abstract, some times even campy.

Manson is nothing like "indie" rock except for maybe Heart Shaped Glasses, I have and have listened to the entire Eat Me , Drink Me album and it is closer to Gothic Metal/melancholy industrial stuff. So calm down u_u and the album is not disappointing, it is much better than Holywood and Golden Age of Grotesque.

Because he's a rock star. No major pop music act is just about the music. It's also about the image, the ideas, and the persona... MTV soundly thrashed any ugly peoples' chance of becoming serioulsy famous. Likewise, most bands in the 80s through mid 90s had official fan clubs people could subscribe to, and have stuff sent to them. Then, the internet became popular, and message boards were created. But, if it was just about the music, you'd listen to it, and not come on here, placing his logo as your avatar, and defending him ad hominem, ad nauseum.

It's the same in the goth subculture. How many guys haven't had hair like Robert Smith at some point or another? (getting less comon these days I'll admit, but work with me) We have our own stars and icons we follow around, and Mr. Manson isn't one of them.
