Cosplay
I wasn't really sure where to put this thread but since it deals with clothes, I'll put it here. My current gf and I plan on attending a cosplay event next year. Although this is far away, I need to find a character that I could pull off well and be able to find a costume for. Any ideas are appreciated, bear in mind that we want to do a couple thing. People may also discuss their cosplay experiences, if any.

What kind of couple do you want to cosplay as?

We were thinking Cloud/Tifa from Final Fantasy VII. We're still in the brainstorming process.

Cloud and Tifa would be really nice but can someone explain what a cosplay actually is/involves? Because I got slight idea about it but not too sure and maybe it's handy to know what it really is.

Well, in terms of what it's going to be like for our local convention, it's basically a week long event in which people can dress up in costume, be it an anime character, video game character, even japanese band member. There's basically a lot of congregation, video games, all sorts of fun things to do during this week long period. It's "Halloween on a weekend," if you will.

Well Misa-Misa and Light (Raito?) wouldn't be that hard to pull of. Or just Misa and L (L has to be the easiest one to cosplay, heh).
Check out this forum for more ideas.
The J-rock clothes are usually much more elaborate (since in the anime/manga they have to redraw the character tons, so they're usually quite simple in design, however creative they might be) So if you (for example) would cosplay as Kyo and Rame (Rame is from the band Vidoll, a cross-dresser) it would be a heck alot harder than cosplaying an anime character. Especially if you decide to cosplay from the bands more flamboyant eras (Diru's Gauze era).
If you can pull of the Cloud hair, that can look really good (check out Gackt's PV for Vanilla for inspiration), BUT bear in mind that there's always tons of people cosplaying those both so I would recommend to cosplay another "couple" instead .
Things to stay away from if you want to feel unique:
Final Fantasy
Naruto
Miyavi/Gackt (usually)

Cloud x Tifa. I love that. Some very sweet couples really do originate in the Final Fantasy games. Yuna and Tidus are one of my favorites. ^_^. Asuma and Kurenai from Naruto, also a nice couple. Hmm...what else? Syaoron and Sakura from Tsubasa, Watanuki and Himawari. Chi and Hideki. CLAMP couples are usually very nice. Oh, squall and Rinoa too. If you look at cosplay from D eviant art.com (remove spaces) there are usually very nice ideas. And unless you're very good at doing so, I don't reccomend doing your own hair, get it done at a hairstylist. And wigs are BAD ideas, very corny. So are premade clothes. Just a few tips ^^.

Jesus H. Christ. This is so waaay far out in left field I can't even find it. Going with your partner to a convention to dress up in costumes? I guess that Ministry song was not so far off. Every day is Halloween eh?
I can't even begin to relate to how that could possibly be fun, or romantic, or stimulating, but hey... If it guns your goat, than more power to you. Lord knows I ain't gettin' laid these days.
You people...

Vako, it's not for romantic purposes, it's fun for all of the game/anime nerds like my gf and I.

If it's fun and no one gets hurt don't see why it has to be insulted publicly...
Go as Colonel Mustang and Riza Hawkeye from FMA. This may just be my personal preferences coming out though.

I have a strange sense of humor. The post was not mean to be insulting, it was meant to be playful.

To each their own, it's certainly not for everyone.

I've never cosplayed, but I was recently at an anime convention. I had a lot of fun just watching people who were in costume. This is also why I enjoy zombie walks and theme nights. You get to see imagination and creativity come to life by the expression of the various outfits.
I would suggest going as characters OTHER than characters from Final Fantasy.

Yeah, that's why I said that we were still brainstorming. As of now, I'm considering something from Bleach or even Blood Plus. Maybe Trigun, who knows?

I'm in the same boat as you right now.
Ryan wants to fly me down for MetroCon and have us go as an anime couple. Unfortunately, we both want to keep our long black hair. xD
I don't think I'll actually be able to make it though. :C No money, not enough time to order or make a costume, trying to move, etc.
Look for characters that look like you (like I could pull of going as Real from Ergo Proxy since I look almost exactly like her). This might make it harder to find a couple, but once you do, it'll actually be more unique.

Hellsing? Didn't hear that one yet, Alucard and.. well you can choose then or police girl or wingates.
Bleach is rather hard, a lot of characters and some with very nice hairstyles (like white which would look very nice) but who to couple then.

I'm certainly game. Next to Hughes, Mustang was my favorite character.
