Rasputina=Heavy metal?

Okay I was talking to a friend and he told me Rasputina was “metal” and then went on to say that all “goth” music is metal or an off shoot of metal….
Am I fricken crazy?????
Cuz I must of missed the boat on the whole Rasputina being Metal or “heavy metal”.
I’m lost cuz they don’t sound metal to me.
And he is still trying to shove it down my throat on Instant message.
So who agrees with me?

Can't say about Rasputina; I've never been interested in her to listen to her music.
But if your friend believes gothic rock is an offshoot of metal, tell him/her to download Bela Lugosi's Dead, and to try to compare it with Judas Priest.

If cellos and corsets are metal then yes, Rasputina are as metal as you can get.

Rasputina's not metal, and metal sure as hell has nothing to do with goth. It's a common misconception. People who take a little time to learn about goth will easily realize all that the majority believes to be goth isn't. It's the same way with punk, the same way with metal, the same way with emo or any subculture. They all have poseurs and leechers.

My friends is a huge metal head and he annoys me soooooo bad, "metal is the best music in the world, all music is a rip off from metal, ohhhh wheres my korn cd blaah blaah laa".

and he tells me "you're new to the "metal scene you need to sit back and listen to me, NEWBIE."

I didnt realize I was on the metal scene at all, not that I have anything against metal but goodness can you please not try to convert me.

To quote the immortal words of Jethro Tull, "The flute is a heavy metal instrument."

Bleed, tell your friend to listen to Bolt Thrower, Gorgoroth, and Celtic Frost, then come tell you that you're a newbie in metal.

Goodness, calling Rasputina metal is like calling Good Charlotte classic rock. How WOULD someone think of it as metal would perhaps disturb me; even so if it's a metal-head who is the MATELIST of the MATEL then I don't really get how it would appeal to him. But anyway, I wouldn't ever consider putting them in the metal catergory. Goth rock, Dark Carabert, Acoustic, Alternative, but NOT metal.

I'm no metal expert, but I can pretty much assure you that the only thing metal about Rasputina are their cello strings and possibly the bones in their corsets.

Agh, Vako, stop doing that. True, metal is not popular among goths, and some of us have said bad things about certain types of metallers, but we clearly specify the kind of metallers we don't like, and you are not the type of metaller we don't like.

I will do what I can to stop doing that. I have a defensive or reactionary personality type. It can definitely get annoying sometimes. I'm happy to hear that you and others are o.k. with me. I certainly like you.

What was his reasoning for thinking Rasputina was metal? Why did he say that at all?

I'm extremeley defensive and reactionary about goth, so try to sympathize. I just don't believe metal has any place in goth, and I have a very good collection of solid study that's led me to believe such. It's a stereotype that goth=metal and it pisses me off quite a bit.

Well here’s what was said on yahoo

Me: Hey I'm listening to Rasputina right now I'm in love XD. You should go down load them on limewire, get a song called “This little piggy”.
Him: They are sooo old. I’ve been listening to them forever, you always find theses bands so late. Its just like when you found Nightwish.
Me: I really don’t care how old a band is good music will forever be good music.. I mean look at the Sex pistols, still awesome. And I didn’t think you would listen to Rasputina doesn’t seem to be your style. You listen to all the metal stuff.
Him: Rasputina is metal!
Me: Not at all they sound like classical to me.
Him: You are wrong this is why I call you a poser because you know nothing about music genres…
Me: I am not a poser at all and ,I know you cant talk Mr.AllIwearIstrippPants. They are not metal at all! Nothing about them is metal.
Him: How can you tell me what metal is you don’t even know anything you listen to crap half the time.
Me: Most metal you listen to is annoying you cant even understand the words it sounds like someone choking on cock.

And then I went on to make fun of metal just to push his buttons.
He called me a poser some more and then I changed the subject.

I admit he knows allot of good music and he was the one who turned me on to night wish but he annoys me so much sometimes I wanna choke him.

If Korn is not metal what is? If I think metal I think Korn, Kittie,
NothingFace, Dimmu borig ( I still cant pronounce it right). All I know about metal is what my friend plays at his house and I don’t pay much attention to it.

He still had no reason...and he's a dick. They're far from classical, but metal...? That just doesn't make sense.

Could I talk to him? What's his AIM? I really am curious as to why he thinks this.

Ummmmmmmmmm I dont really want him to know that I was talking about him. I'll ask him if he minds if I give his yahoo to you.
If you o talk to him I really need another opinnion on his "friendship"
because he is one of my ONLY friends so I learned what subjects to avoid. He is "cool" in some ways but he just wont expand his thinking he says stupid things and doesnt care.

Feh, I listen mainly to metal then I listen to goth. And yeah there's a big difference. Kind of hard to mistake one for the other. Rasputina is clearly *not* metal. Not even close.

Heavy cello? I believe Julia Kent was/is working with Antony & The Johnsons still. I know she's doing a solo tour right now.

This reminds of the time some dick told me that people mosh/headbang to The Cure...

That would possibly be the slowest, least exciting moshpit EVER!
