Night Time Photography

Oi oi.

I was going to go out amongst the people tonight, and take some photographs of the village church and graveyard.
Sadly, it rained.

So I put that plan on hiatus for a while.

Anyway, just a quick question if anyone had any tips on how to take rather swish night time photographs with a first generation digital camera. ><
I've never taken photos at night before, so I'm not sure what to do you see.

If anyone could give me any tips they would be greatly appreciated.
I'll probably photoshop them too, I used to be quite the dab hand at photoshop you see, and I think I would like to get back into it.

Anyway, thankyou very much for reading.

Over and out.

Edit: The linkage doesn't like Deviant Art for some reason... *Cries*

A mate puts a sheer stocking over the flash, and that dampens the light a tad.

What camera do you have? Can you even control the flash? If you can't, putting something over it like Duckman sugested isn't the stupiest idea. Anyway, what's more important to have the camera standstill, either using a tripod or just having it sit on something... basicly just a way to make the camre stand COMPLETELY still. (It's impossible using your bare hands, believe me.)

It seems this board censors devian art, don't know why... (but I just replaced the consoring with the site name and the link worked fine, maybe I'll comment on da later.)

If you can access the manual settings on the camera be sure to use long shutter time, or put it in nightmode(if possible.)

A friend of mine has done some nightphotos, some of them are real good: http://shorl.com/kydigrefryvutu
