Ooh, Sopor.
I very much dig Sopor, in fact, I'm listening to him/her right now :P
Where did you hear of it?

Well, a friend of mine introduced me to Anna Varney's music 10 years ago. She/he has a (small) group of dedicated fans here in Greece. Me and that frend of mine are two of them.
I bought all her/his albums that were released after that, and now I'm waiting for the re-release of the earlier cds that were unavailable.
I simply ADORE her music. I believe she/he is the most brilliant singer/songwriter alive.
In fact, my signature is from her/his latest album.
It's nice to know that you like her/his music too!
Which one were you listening to?

Oh my god, ice. You're so clever. That's the first time everyone's mentioned to me that Hanson "look like girls."

Gingerb: I know, sorry for that horrible hackneyed joke.
Whenever I hear Hanson, I think of Quagmire.
Skoteinh: I don't remember what I was listening to at the time I wrote my post, but my favourites would be Eldorado, and Omen Sinistrum
I too was introduced to him/her.
-So, my pal and I are wondering, are you one of "them"? :P

That poll really sucks you know...... nu-metal shouldn`t even be considered music..... it`s all pure garbage and I can`t stand ANY of it.
Anyways, as mentioned by a few others, my favorite band EVER is Sopor Aeternus. No artist has ever conveyed such pure emotion and poetic expression, nor has taken their art so seriously as Anna Varney..... she`s a pure artistic genius if there ever was one.
Other favorites???
Skinny Puppy, Project Pitchfork, FLA, Summoning, Ulver, Oneiroid Psychosis, Das Ich, Clan of Xymox, Diary of Dreams, Faith & the Muse, Ataraxia, Bauhaus, Siouxsie & the Banshees, (early)The Cure, Christian Death(with Rozz), Fields of the Nephilim, Arcana, Aghast, Lustmord, Raison D`Etre, Anathema, My Dying Bride, Tiamat
to name a few......

I think my favorite bands would have to be CoF, Marilyn Manson, NIN, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, My Dying Bride, In Flames, Children of Bodom, and Nocturnal Rites. Cradle of Filth was the first black metal band I ever heard, and they opened up a whole new world of music for me!

Best Band Ever
Best band ever... I agree with the guy on page one. Has to be the Beatles. My favorites are all DISbanded (including the Beatles). Personally, Siouxie & the Banshees and Oingo Boingo. Someone above mentioned Dead Can Dance. I just heard them for the first time today, and they are outstanding.
The poll is irrelevant. Notice there are only 3 votes!

 I'm going to sound like such a fangrrrl, here...but Rammstein is my favorite. I haven't heard anything by them I -didn't- like. Some I like more than others, but nothing I just plain couldn't stand.
As for "best" band of all time, I would say The Beatles. They weren't afraid to experiment, and quite frankly, they changed the face of rock and roll.

You’re kidding right? Evanescence is good and all, but not the greatest of all time.
If I have to pick I would say the Beatles because they broke so many barriers besides being very talented, but my all time favorite would have to be Queen. I don't know if it was the insane flamboyance, his talent, or a mix of the two but you just can't beat Freddie Mercury.

I love metal... I was raised on it. My favorite band of all time has to be Iron Maiden. I'm going to hitch a ride to the DTE energy center to see them on the Ozzfest tour.

I love Type O Negative. Whenever you hear them you know without a doubt who they are if you have heard them before. The blend alot of diffrent types of music together so I really don't think they can be properly classified as "goth metal" or whatever little title people like to slap on them.

I think the best band ever is the Sisters of Mercy. I just love Andrew Eldritch's voice, and the song writing and instrumentation are amazing! Yeah, I know I really changed from the last time I posted in this thread. I'd never really heard any old-school goth music at that point. Also among my new interests are London After Midnight, Fear Cult, Zeromancer, Doppelganger, and The Mission UK.
