Adam and the Ants!!!

A lot of people don't realize this, but Adam and the Ants are one of the first deathrock bands. Listen to their 1979 album "Dirk Wears White Sox" and tell me you don't hear echoes of Joy Division, Bauhaus, the Damned, and T.S.O.L. in it.
They're also like Southern Death Cult's little brother. I mean, just look at what Adam Ant wears in his live performances! And the tribal aspect is sure as hell present and... adamant. XD

Come on! What's your favorite song by them?
I really love "Nine Plan Failed", "Tabletalk", "Day I Met God", and "(You're So) Physical".

Good goth, I LOOVE Adam and the Ants. "Stand and Deliver", "Scorpios" and a few tracks from Kings of the Wilde fronteir are among my favourites by them. Adam Ant is a sexy boi.

Cool

I used to have the `Kings of the Wild Frontier`, it was my first ever tape, and I had the poster of them on my wall. I remember the video for `Stand and Deliver` being really cool !!!.

Staaaaaand and deliver...
Your money or your life!

Such an awesome band. When I was thirteen my aspiration in life was to become a highwayman thanks to that song.

I never knew so many people here had a longtime affection for the Ants.

Anyone heard "Dirk Wears White Sox" though? That's a purely deathrock album, whereas "Kings of the Wild Frontier" starts going into... I don't really know.

I like the Antmusic song, and the Ants Invasion video.
The guy had some awesome dance talent too. Loved the mix of horns and rock instruments.

Hmmm... I'm not sure I'd call 'Dirk Wears White Sox' purely deathrock, but it certainly has that sort of feel to it. A great album either way. I like more songs off 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' though. Jolly Roger is just too awesome (anything about pirates has me won over, really).

It's really hard to put the Ants in one genre. I have them placed under New Wave on iTunes, but really I think they're a genre of their own.

Anyone ever heard Adam Ant's later solo work? It isn't quite as overall amazing as Adam and the Ants, but the song 'Vampires' is awesome.

I definitely need more exposure to this band, methinks... I wrote about it in my final essay during my music studies, where I wrote about gothic music and the subculture, but I never got to listen much to them apart from this one song of theirs that I included with the CD that accompanied the papers. Hm. Any recommendations on where to start?

When I first heard them, I found them tedious.
But then I heard their album Prince Charming, and I liked some of its songs.

The album "Dirk Wears White Sox" is good, as I've mentioned before.
It's their rawest, most punk-influenced album for sure.

I remember as a young pre teen buying kings of the wild frontier when it came out in 1980 made quite an impact on me.

Ed did you ever get to listen to their John Peel sessions? Far rawer and punkier than the slightly over-produced Dirk Album.

Oh, definitely "Stand and Deliver" for me!

And thanks for making me take a trip down memory lane. I must find the cd-equivalents of the vinyls I have lying around now.

For some reason, whenever I think Adam and the Ants, I think Blondie... why, oh why? Must be some obscure association in my brain dating back to overuse of alcohol in my younger years.

Adam and the Ants are perfection. Adam Ant's voice is sexy as hell. Stand and Deliver is my absolute favorite song.

Get Kings of the Wild frontier and Dirk Wears White Socks. Basically all the Antmusic you'll ever need. Unless you're like me and crave more...

I've just recently gotten into them, and they are absolutely great! Stand and Deliver is one of my favorites so far.

A friend of mine owns a bunch of Adam and the Ants tapes as well as a shitty little tape deck. Well anyway, this one time we were kinda high and had been drinking a little and decided to take a walk near his house and listen to Adam and the Ants. We ended up wandering all around the fields near his house just dancing to Price Charming and S.E.X. Retarded as hell, but so much fun
