Dropkick Murphys are fun; Celt-punkish, as are the Real MacKenzies, the Tossers, and Flatfoot 56. I love Sick of It All, very old school NY Punk, still rocking... the HorrorPops are a cute Punk-a-Billy band...

There's also Television, who are sometimes classified as art-rock, as well as 999. I would say Jawbreaker, because I simply associate them with what is Punk, but they're typically classified as emo.

Er if you say so. I would tend to go with Art (school) Punk being the epitome of punk. But once you end up in that territory you are practically at Goth anyway.

Music for the lower class? That's what punk is all about.
It's also done away with the upper and middle class punk shit like what Bad Religion has done, where you need a dictionary to listen to them.

Also a lot of oi bands want to 'glorify the old days' of punk, and bring back that sound that originally made punk what it is, while keeping the logical evolutions, such as growling voices and distorted guitars, and all that shit.

The Art-School Punks were folks like Adam Ant son of a Chauffeur and a Cleaner. Brief Bio

From a Brit perspective the mid to late 70's brought about growing numbers of young people from Working Class and Lower Middle Class backgrounds rejecting the oppressive cultural norms of 'class' and heading off to Art-College, Polytechnics and University, due to the availability of fully financed higher and further education. Gone was the stigma as my Father put it, that 'Going to University would be a betrayal of my Class'. I can never see Punk as a celebration of underclass, rather as a rejection of underclass and its macho culture. Yes there was Anger. But also a desire to subvert.

These days if you want music that reflects those who don't even have these opportunities then try Dubstep.

As for the Working Class. I am the only person without a trade in my family. I am the only one who went to university. I am the only professional. And of course I earn the least out of all of them.

Haha. Different Strokes. Don't even get my started on American Hardcore. Although I like Rites of Spring - but they are definitely proto-emo.

So I guess you don't like early Deathrock/Batcave Goth stuff then much either.

Talking to folks before from the states I have realised that in the US Art-school wasn't the same mixing pot of people from different backgrounds, and didn't fulfil the same role as an escape from drudgery for folks with no formal academic qualifications. I think Brit-punk and Artschool were pretty much intertwined, (http://www.newstatesman.com/200706180030) although plenty of folks like Warsaw (later Joy Division) were from solid working class backgrounds.
