Listen to Laibach. They're far better than Rammstein, and they're Rammstein's main influence.
They're not metal though; only on one album. (that album is Jesus Christ Superstars)

For bands like KMFDM, check out Zeromancer, Skold, Slick Idiot, PIG, and Koil.

By the way, the term you're looking for is 'industrial metal', not "german metal."

X-Mal Deutschland. Not metal or industrial, but they're German and I love them.

When it comes to German bands, Lacrimosa is by far my favourite. I do love the classical music influence in their music.
*le sigh*

Not bad. I just downloaded it, and it's pretty good.

I don't think that's quite accurate. Not every German metal band is industrial, and not every industrial band is German. (Besides, when just talking about metal bands from Germany, "German metal" sounds correct.)

If we're talking "German Metal", as in bands from Germany, then you need to check out Kreator, Sodom, and Destruction.

Otherwise, Maggot's spot on, and you should also look into kidneythieves, Front Line Assembly (They're sort of industrial. Sort of.) and Prong.

But they're also somewhat metal, and they both have origins in Germany.

Anyway, I know Rammstein is NDH, but they described themselves as something else, and I believe they still fall, by the majority, into Industrial Metal.

Personally, I'm not very fond of metal, but I've got a weak spot for Subway to Sally, with their folk/ medieval/ gothic metal sound. Extremely catchy...

How about some Bethlehem? I mean, how many parental crusades begin over a teenager building a shrine in his room out of a band's CDs? And just when you thought music's influence on something like Columbine couldn't get much worse.

If you knew German, you'd also know why they hardly have a fanbase worth speaking of in their own country. Take it from me, I'm German, I should know. They've got the most asinine texts ever written in the German language.

This thread is full of fail. Rammstein is horrible, KMFDM was good 10 years ago, but isn't even close to metal, as someone already pointed out.

Heaven Shall Burn, Fall Of Serenity, caliban and End Of Eden(myspace band) are all German, not sure about End Of Eden though.
Also Die Apokalyptischen Reiter are quite good
