Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL.

Cool Need Reccomendations Please.

I've just started to play my drums again recently, and i've actually bothered to learn how to play them. Does anyone have any good reccomendations for my first song to practise, preferably something with an easy and fairly slow drum beat. Gotta work on my base drum speed. And also a band name, something that sounds really dark and evil. Don't want anything like 'Visions of Atlantis' for a name, more like something like The Infected which was one of my friends ideas, but it did nigh go down well.

All the bands I knew (goes over list) (long list) (resolves to keep diversify the company she keeps) chose the name of their band based on something relevant to themselves.

A band I knew named themselves "Jason" because they realized the only thing they had in common was their like of those stupid movies. Another named themselves after the street we all lived on.

As for "The Infected"...rather cliche, don't you think?

What does cliche mean? If it's something bad then thats probably the reason I didn't want to go with the name.

2. (in art, literature, drama, etc.) a trite or hackneyed plot, character development, use of color, musical expression, etc.
3. anything that has become trite or commonplace through overuse.
4. British Printing. a. a stereotype or electrotype plate.
b. a reproduction made in a like manner.

–adjective 5. trite; hackneyed; stereotyped; clichéd.

I have an idea for a name.
My friend and I used to jokingly rag on my brother for listening to death metal so we made up a fictional death metal band called Bio-Mass. Then, against my brothers will, we told him that they were his favorite band and that he was going to all of the shows on thier "Black Forest of Death" tour.

Call your band Bio-Mass and you're my hero. It's also very much cool if you don't.

I always wanted to start a band where everyone dressed like Willie Nelson but played "dark" music. We'd call ourselves THE LATE NIGHT WILLIES.

Are you ready for a dose of THE LATE NIGHT WILLIES.

Seriously, if you don't want to sound pretentious, go with a sort one word name. Like HATCHET or AXE or SHIT.

My brother came up with the name Subliminal Mesages; perhaps that would be useful.

If you want some easy but good drum songs, check out anything by Cream. Ginger Baker is great.

Oh, and here are some band names I was thinking of:

Kheta (Hebrew for "sin")
Surviving The Rupture
Cut:Angel
180 Angel

I can't think of anything easy to play, but once you get REALLY good, you can play "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Buttefly--yay 6 minute drum solo! Maybe "House of Wolves" by My Chemical Romance once you get at an intermediate level...good luck!

My band recorded "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" without the drum solo.
