Hallo, Tyler here...
Hallo everyone...
I'll answer the survey momentarily. I would like people to know that I am who I am. If it is not Gothic enough for you, or you don't like my musical selections, you may keep such opinions to yourself, for I will casually dismiss them. If you have a group you think I might like, give me a link and I'll will kindly check them out. I'm always open to new options, and newI believe there are much more pressing issues in this world that to have a subculture torn apart by inter-fighting over personal preferences in terms of music. Also, my advice is you ban me from the political forum, or you'll never here the end of my rants on the evils of the State (I'm an Individualist/Market Anarchist).
Really, though. I don't like arguments over petty issues and hold a strong opinion that all should be respected that respect you. Don't ask me to change, as I would not request that of you...
Besides that, I'm glad to be here, and please don't bite the newbie too hard... Scratch that, you can bite. I can handle it. =P
1. What do you do? What pays the bills? I am the assistant manager of a local airport (international identifier: KRKW).
2. Where are you from? The United States of Amerika, namely the State of Tennessee (not sure what sector it will be in the 'NAU'..)
3. Who is your favorite author[s]?
Fiction wise: Robert A. Heinlein, Matthew Stackpole
Non-fiction: Murry Rothbard, Dr. Ron Paul, Henry David Thoreau, Leo Tolstoy
4. What are your favorite films?
V for Vendetta, Fight Club, Phantom of the Opera, Boondock Saints
5. What music do you want played at your wedding?
So She Dances - Josh Groban (No killing, please?)
6. At your funeral?
Creek Mary's Blood - Nightwish
7. This IS a [G]othic website, so... how do you want to die?
If things keep going to way they are, I fear I will die in a detention centre of some form. =( I would prefer, negating the aforementioned scenario not beng my fate, to be executed, rather than waste away from neglect or torment. In that case, short-drop hanging. None of this methodical, medical-like 'lethal injection', I'd rather fight it to the end.
8. What kind of casket would you want?
Simple, deep mahogany. No need for anything fancy. I would, however, like a thin late-19th century flat-marble tombstone (none of this high-gloss late-20th century look), and at least one soul who remembers me to lay a rose upon my grave. I would hate to be forgotten completely.
9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?
Being a business major, and headed for the corporate world, I am rather fond of nice blazers, ties, etc. However, I can't just look like everyone on the board room, now can I? I like black or dark gray Oxfords/slacks (non-garish pinstripes are a plus), iridescent red/black ties, Victorian-era waist coats (velvet or silk, black or deep burgundy red) and leather, suade or wool blazers, and for those chilly winter days, a wool driving/trench coat and black leather driving gloves. Accessories (watches, chains, pins, etc) at random (platinum/stainless steel, please. I hate gold >.>). I also like intricate designs & patterns, I have to browse a lot before I find what I like...
10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?
I'm sure it's been said a hundred times. Being able to do more of what you wanted and the freedom to enjoy life.
11. What's your favorite band?
Do I have to choose one? Of course, I don't. Top artists (and remember, this is my personal preference, and I'm sure it could be argued that none are truly 'Gothic' by some. Several aren't at all): Nightwish, Midnattsol, Lacuna Coil, Loreena McKennitt, Counting Crows, Edenbridge, Leaves' Eyes, Within Temptation, Theater of Tragedy, Jón Hallur, Imogen Heap, Kamelot, Mortal Love, Josh Groban and I'm starting to like The Birthday Massacre, which surprised me.
12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?
International Business is my current major, then a. MBA from perhaps Oxford or Carnegie-Mellon (Tepper). I'm a little over half way to my B.A.
13. Why did you join?
I have long admired the Gothic culture, yet for family and personal reasons avoided it. I've always had a taste for the darker aspects of the universe (much to the misunderstanding of others). Honestly, I hate labels so much, I didn't want to be 'group' with anyone throughout high school, however I've sort of mellowed and the Goth culture is where I feel more at home. I would hate to be considered a poser or anything to that effect, so publicly I won't call myself 'Goth'. I would hate to betray someone else culture that I am slowly venturing into, by declaring myself one of them to all. The local club scene appears interesting, but I want to tread lightly. That's why I am here.
14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?
Male

Welcome to the boards!!!
Oh I am in love with Kamelot. They are so amazing!!!
So you have a major in International Business? That's pretty cool. I am going to go to a university next year. Pretty nerve racking. LOL.
I'm going to take a major in accounting.

I feel the same with the whole gothic culture, but I am also limited to what I can do because of family. *sigh*

Oh my, welcome to the boards! You seem to be a pretty interesting person, so perhaps sometime in the future we may talk at length.
Also, I absolutely adore Nightwish (I like Tarja loads more than Annette), Kamelot, Leaves' Eyes (Liv Kristine is amazing; I wish she was still with Theatre of Tragedy instead of Nell Sigland, though she isn't horrible), and I'm in love with Within Temptation, and Sharon's wonderful voice. Their new album "The Heart of Everything" is superb.
Again, welcome to G.net, and do enjoy your stay.

Okay, I have not been eaten yet. This is good!
Thank you ladies both for the welcome.
Accounting? May the Creator bless you, sister. =P Seriously, that's cool, and I wish you luck!
I come from a Southern Baptist family on my father's side and old german-Jewish heritage on my mother's. My political (Individualist Anarchism), religious (Tolstoy-isque Christianity) and philosophical (Rationalism, with a decent dose of 19th-century Romanicism) views are all questioned already. My music is not discussed period. =P
Honestly I like Liv better in Leaves' Eyes, but that's simply because I'm not a big fan of Industrial. However, I did love ToT's Elizabethan English lyrics as in Rose for the Dead, On Whom the Moon Doth Shineth, etc.
Tarja made Nightwish, Nightwish. Annette isn't a bad singer, and I do like some of Dark Passion Play (the rest of the band and their lyricist haven't lost their touch), but it's not Nightwish. Not to mention Bye, Bye Beautiful is a not-so-concealed hit piece on Tarja.
I have hope though! Tarja is releasing her own album, and the single sounded very good... It's out in November.

I think that Tarja is the voice that Nightwish needed. Sure she didn't write the lyrics but her voice made their music sound more fantasy-like. I also think that Liv is better in Leaves' Eyes even though I actually like some Industrial songs.
Thank you for wishing me luck. I think I may need it. I hope I do well though.
Well it seems as though you have quite an interesting personality!

Well, thank you! I'm a rather odd fellow IRL, and thus few people 'get' me. Those that have gotten to know me usually describe me as cold, dark & formal. I'm not always a hundred-precent sure how they mean it, I usually just take it as a compliment. Doesn't help to take it anyother way, eh?

Ha, no, it really doesn't help to take it any other way. I like you, so welcome to g-net, hang around and have some fun.

LOL. No I suppose it doesn't really.
I actually find it amusing what other people think of me.
For example someone has called me "psychotic" before. That was really funny... okay don't get me wrong, I'm really not.

Hey, welcome! You seem very cool and down-to-earth. I also enjoy Lacuna Coil, Leaves' Eyes, ToT, and Kamelot. Also, I will admit to adoring "Round Here" by the Counting Crows, and a couple other songs are good too. I like a broad range of music as well, so I don't judge unless your taste is truly abysmal. And I feel bad afterwards.
You sound very intelligent, and quite pleasant. I don't call myself goth either, and don't plan to until I leave high school (I'll also then be able to feel comfortable going completely all-out in my dressing).
I agree, gold is hideous.

Alternately, you could keep an open mind towards new music and sincere advice. You may even find new artists and songs that you like.

No , delicti , he was on the defensive I guess , for he may have exactly the same opinion as I had about the gothic subculture and don't came here to be attacked by fanaticals ... (Sadly there's a lot of fools there who called themselves goths , and I guess he had found some on his way ...)
But yes , I can say I've learned here a lot about the subculture and nobody should close his/her mind , specially to a few interesting things here ...
Tyler , I hope you stay with us and left soon your defensive attitude : The guys here are nice enough to convince me , and that's a lot ...

Thank you all for the warm welcome. The last two forums I have signed up at I was eaten alive upon introduction, so I apologize for being a little gun shy.
G.L: Understand what you mean. I am moving out of my house to live on campus in January. Until then, I'm sort of restricted on what I can do, etc. But, eh.. Four months, a very short time indeed. I'm going to a private university, which though is Christian, is very progressive and has a small contingent of Goths on campus already.
Rose: Heh, not been labeled psychotic yet. Actually, scratch that. I got it once from a friend after executing a Em-break J-Turn on a two-lane highway at +85kph. =P But that was a one time statement.
Horror: Thanks! I will!
EDIT:
Wolf: Thanks. Eh, I had been reading here a bit before signing and wasn't sure what to expect. I've actually never had trouble with any Goths and thanks to a couple I knew back in my high school years, I'm here now. And actually, that's an interesting story in its own right.

I actually thought it was really funny when I got called that.
Hey if people want to say these things to you, might as well have fun with it, right?
So now me and my friend pretend we have imaginary friends, one of which is a giant pink arsenist(sp?) bunny. LOL.

Oh my, I know I'm a tad late on this, but....
Let the heavens part, and the sun pour down! Tarja is making a solo album!
Hooray!

Yes he does!!!
Well me and my friend were probably given drugs in our water or something but this is how it works.
He's a pink bunny. He's not cute, and if you say that then he will get really pissed off. He has his own little psychotic issues and likes to spread mischeif around wherever he hops off to. The fire comes from his paws and he can also blow up things. He likes to be praised and worshipped.
Like I said we were probably on drugs. :P

Sounds like a punk's acid trip from the '70s. Of course, nothing wrong with that right?
