On star wars...has anyone noticed that Emporer Palpatine looks exactly like the new pope. (Talk about politics.) I saw Star Wars opening night and I liked it, but as big a star wars buff as I am (watched them with my dad from birth) I did notice some things that werent true to the story.

The last movie I saw was Unleashed, which I thought was sweet in a brutallic fighting kinda way. Plus, there were lotsa hot punk thugs in it. yum.

"Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy" was a great movie. True to the book with the obvious exception of some minor content, and Mos Def (as loy stated earlier) was amazing to watch. Hell the whole thing was amazing to watch. Definitely one of those films that need to be seen on the big screen. We were commisioned by Mice...

A few months ago I went the the local fine arts museum to see "Gloomy Sunday." No, it's not very goth but it was strange and a little artsy. It's a German movie so I had fun reading all the subtitles.

The setting takes place in Budapest during the 30s. Lazslo, a Jewish restaurant owner hires Andras as the pianist. He falls for Ilona, the hot waitress who's already going out with Lazslo. But he doesn't mind and they become a happy threesome. No one got mad at each other, which was the strangest in my opinion. Hans the Nazi officer also falls in love with Ilona but she doesn't like him very much.

Anyway, Andras composes the song "Gloomy Sunday". People love it at first, then they fear it. The depressing melody triggers a worldwide chain of suicides.

As the Holocaust approaches Ilona and Andras try to hide Laszlo. She turns to Hans their old friend for help but he becomes a traitor and recieves a nice present on his 80th birthday. :wink:

I won't describe anymore details and tell the whole story. That would just ruin everything.

If it sounds interesting you could possibly order the DVD online or it could sometime show at an independent movie theater.

Star Wars Episode 3. The Star Wars geek deep inside of myself blanched when she saw this movie. It just wasn't any fun nor was it exciting. Honestly, I prefered The Phantom Menace with its Jar Jar Binks (I miss that guy), pod races and Darth Maul. Nothing beats the old trilogy though.

Jar Jar was my guy. He was dopey, crazy and all out zany. It must be the Caribbean in me though that thought he was so amusing. He reminded me of a parody of the many crazies back home on "the rock" only with a sweeter heart. (Oh George ... you and your alien ethnicities. tsk tsk .... Mr. Lucas ... tsk tsk ...) :P*

Something far and removed from the usual…two movies, and I absolutely loved them both.

First up, and most eviscerating, is Hotel Rwanda. I remember this tragic event of human depravation, and exactly where I was and what I was doing when it happened. I was in the comfort of a north-west Florida town too wrapped up in my own meager sufferings, and what I did was lament about the wrongness of the world and how fucked up everything was.

So, nowhere, and nothing.

This movie needs to be watched. Those tragedies need to be remembered. I feel a bit inadequate and really fucking guilty in saying I absolutely loved this movie. That I thought Don Cheadle gave his best performance since co-staring with Tommy Lee-Jones, or that Nick Notle redeemed him career with a poignant angsty snob…but I don’t feel guilty in saying I shed tear after tear watching this movie. Goddamn, I suddenly want to send money to Sally Struthers.

It’s only one cup of coffee, after all.

Second on the list is, Madagascar. OMFG. What a laugh riot! The movie didn’t try to impose any PEDA like agenda, which is what I was originally afraid of. There was the hint of it, truly, but in the end the non-stop puns and grossly exaggerated funnies won me over. Easily the best new computer animated flick since, Finding Nemo.

Loy: Is “I Stand Alone” worth me searching it out and viewing? I hear the violence gets so bad, that there is a flashing sign on the screen for 30 seconds warning viewers that it is going to get really nasty.

Any thoughts?

I watched A Bunny's Tale at 3 in the morning. Kirstie Alley used to be hot. Weird. The mom from Growing Pains had a wierd shoulder/neck thing going on, but she was pretty hot too.

And unrelated except for the fact that I was watcing Celebrity Poker with him last night, Scott Wolf is hot. (Yes, with him. He was in my bed. Naked.)

I saw 100 Days Before the Command.

Boy oh boy... what can be said. First off: this was extremely weird and disturbing. Yeah, even I was kinda disturbed.
And uh, actually, that's about all I can say. I liked the movie because it was so odd. You don't get many movies like this.

HOLY SHIT- I just watched that this afternoon. What channel was it on- the Women's Network or something? We're both so gay. And I agree- the chicks were hot. The one with the weird voice... I don't know what I think about her. The purple bunny with red hair- you know the one. Like, she was hot, but I feel like I'd get annoyed with her screaming my name in bed with that voice, you know?

Good movie.

BTW folks Kairo, the movie both Loy and I have said is a great horror movie (and my favorite horror movie) will be getting an American release before the American remake is out, like they did with Ju-On.

Also avoid "Dark Water", I hated it. :x

Weird. I know who you're talking about, the bitch who dumps the drink on the guy's head? She wasn't that hot. Too pale and timid.

The girl who was accused of stealing would've looked a hell of a lot better with different hair. It was a little mullet-y. Anyone who has/had a mullet should be shot. Or maybe just the people who cut the hair. Cough. Cough.

A Man Called Horse.

This is the first western I remember watching as a child, and actually liking. Before then I remember being inundated with John Wayne (that I’ve since grown a slight affinity for) sagas, which were mostly about The Duke getting some tail, killing hordes of blood-thirsty, dirty, stinking, savages, and getting some more tail. I was never really happy with that formula, and even as a young child felt the wrongness of it and would cheer the natives on, hoping beyond hope that one (just one) would get off a lucky shot and knock that (I love you more now than I did then John) great big funky walking funny talking cowboy off his fucking horse.

And then came a man called Horse, who did exactly that.

What I love most about this movie is its approach to the audience. My son and wife watched it with me tonight, and both complained about the lack of dialog, and when there was dialog, the lack of a translation text.

“But that’s the beauty!” I argued. We are given his perspective, with a very limited knowledge of the language and cultural practices, and we struggle with him as he tries to overcome ethnic and religious barriers. Instead of trying to assert his great-white knowledge over the natives he tries to understand them. In understanding them he begins to respect them. Once respect is understood acceptance begins, and Richard Harris really begins to shine as an actor.

I love this movie. I love the tragedy, the adversity, I even love the abrupt, what the fuck ending. There are people who evangelize Little Big Man as the ultimate Native American movie, then there are you Dances With Wolves fucks, and then there are us Horse fanatics.

Slide a couple of bone fragments through my pectorals, and hang me out to dry because I’m done.

Suicide Club and Battle Royale. There's a BR II out, too. I haven't seen it, but it looks good, and it's sitting on my best friend's kitchen table right now. The plot is that they stopped doing the island thing, but now they send out people to kill the two that escaped the island, and if they fail, they die.
