Ville Valo is so sentimental when writing..

H.I.M. rocker Ville Valo is considering quitting the music industry because songwriting turns him into a suicidal wreck. The Finnish rocker admits penning his band's dark songs drives his depression and he can only envy those who find the process cathartic and therapeutic.

He says, "You open the door for the demons, and everything just f**king comes out. Now the meltdowns are getting worse, and the depression won't go away; it's like being haunted by the most vile creatures ever created. I've had depression before, but when you're so overwhelmed that it's taking you over... I just don't know if I'm prepared emotionally or mentally to write another song."

Valo's bandmates and friends were so concerned about the frontman's mental health they implored him to seek help - and applauded him when he checked into celebrity rehab facility Promises in California. Producer Tim Palmer, who produced H.I.M.'s new album "Venus Doom," knew the singer needed rehab help - because he realized Valo was becoming more like his late brother, who committed suicide.

He adds, "When somebody gets that low, it is so important to find a friend or doctor or family member and just get help. Ville took a massive step by coming clean to me and just admitting to these feelings."

Who else calls publicity stunt on this one?

That rehab facility is for drug and alcohol abuse, not generalized mental health:

If it's true that his brother killed himself, it's very possible that Ville himself has depression, and that this is for real.
Do you guys think that maybe the reason you just immediately think it's a publicity stunt is because you already hate the guy?

Nah, I don't hate him - I actually think his music is fun & lightweight, even if a lot of his fans are the opposite. :-D (I should say - not all - that's not pointed at anyone here!)

You gotta admit that it seems really weird that someone would go to a drug & alcohol center to deal with their depression though? Especially since he's advertising it -- it kind of screams of smoke & mirrors.

Don't diss Smoke and Mirrors, Del...

Anyway, I'm not surprised. Guys, there WERE reports of him obviously abusing alcohol and such. Mayhaps he links his depression to alcohol abuse?

See, that's the part I have a problem with! I link good times to my alcohol abuse... I don't need to make excuses for it! :-D

That's because you're a good drinker. You know how to act and you probably don't drink to solve your problems. Some people can't control themselves and the mild mind relief of alcohol becomes and issue which later leads to illness and depression. It's not that widely publicized if it's on UG either. When the majority of your fabase is a bunch of stupid kids who don't know good music from turkey basters, things like this happen. i agree that it isn't everyone's business and it should be put up on the internet somewhere, but I still have sympathy for him.

the thing is this may be a publicity stunt, but then again it may not be, haven't any of you ever started writing and sometimes you end up crying you find you've been writing out your emotions and your demons end up poking you with a stick you end up with a case of the blues (which mr. valo seems to have achieved) or a case of the mean reds. either way don't judge the man. (mainly because i find him inspirational and my bff is standing over my shoulder and threatening me...)

OOO, I was just thinking the same thing. Poor HIm fans, they won't have their idol anymore.

Though, then again, I never listened to them. So I'm not sure if they are good or not.

This thread is an attempt to establish Ville's "gothness" to the boardmembers isn't it?

That's so sad!!!!!!

I actually liked a couple of HIM's songs. They weren't too bad. I like Ville Valo's voice though. Considering he has asthma too, its pretty impressive.

Bam's an idiot, and that's putting it politely.

As for Ville, I hope everything turns out okay. And I do agree that it's quite strange, where he's going.

I really, really enjoy HIM and I had no idea that this was having such an effect on Ville.

The original report on why Ville went to rehab was that he was abusing alcohol to the point where he couldn't sing during live shows. This is a new story to me.

I love HIM. This is kinda sad.
I can see why some hardcore goths don't like them givin there recent popularity and push into the maintstreme the last few years. You feel to cool for the likes of a band like HIM, but I think there music and Ville's lyrics are amazing.

I agree on the Bam being a idiot. That little brat needs a beetdown.

It's not that they're popular. I like some popular bands. It's just that they suck. I feel like I'm going to puke whenever I hear something like "your love is a razorblade kiss." It's terrible.

Like Green Lady says, we don't hate H.I.M. because they're popular; PLENTY of goths still love the Cure and Nine Inch Nails, even though they're both very successful in the mainstream. We hate them because they're a trendy pop band in goth's clothing.

I bet that 75% of the dudes and dudettes that listens to HIM wouldn't have listened to them at all if the singer wasn't pretty in their eyes.
