Neil Gaiman

There doesn't seem to be a Neil thread here, and I think there should be one.

I'm a huge fan of all of his works, the novel American Gods was the first piece of writing of his that I read, and it's still my favorite. Although, I really loved Neverwhere and The Sandman series of graphic novels.

Any other Neil fans around?

LOL, we are in agreement.

Have a favorite book, comic, short story, or screenplay?

I will admit to having immature fantasies about meeting him at the local coffee shop or park...

Move to Minneapolis and you just might. ;-)

He wrote on his website that if you want something autographed, you can leave it at this one bookshop that he goes to every few weeks. I've never actually met the man myself, but I've been told that he's one of the most pleasant and unpretentious people around.

Well, if I'm ever in the area... (I probably will never be, as I am sadly not even sure where exactly in the US Minnesota is... in the middle somewhere?)

I'm ashamed to admit that the only Sandman story I've read so far is "Kashmir".

Anansi Boys was freaking awesome. Gaiman's wit and humor is only paralleled by that of Alan Moore sometimes.

You should really read everything you can find by him, but start with 'The Sandman,' his most well-known and widely enjoyed series. It's classic.

I also like Alan Moore. Just not as much as Neil.

American Gods literally took my breath away. Incredible writing. I tell everybody who comes within 10 yards of me that they absolutely must read it. Then again, I'm Norse...so the characters were favorites of mine before I even knew it.

I've actually met Neil Gaiman, though it wasn't a chance encounter. I attended a panel discussion in which he was participating.
His accent is cool.

I haven't been able to get hold of Sandman for love nor money.

I do have Stardust ( I shall see the film also ) and Neverwhere ( the serires of this is great ) , and I love both of those.

Weird... most major bookstores where I live carry The Sandman... In the phone book there should probably be a list of comic stores that may have them or order them for you.

To second GL, a majority of the time bookstores will also order items for you. Heck, they might even be glad to order some Sandman, just to appear "hip" and "with it".

Or just order it from Amazon.

And I have to agree with wonderland, if you haven't read American Gods, YOU NEED TO.

Well Gaiman created one of the most interesting and brillant personalities I can remember... Death. Dream is well I dont have to explain, great. But I always feel like he did make his Death a thinng to be remembered.

I love all Gainman works, specially The Sandman, the clean arguments, the "big" little words... I always use some words from the comic... "Dont summon what you cannot dismiss", "You know, the universe bends around us... that is responsability", "Sometimes when you fall, you fly" and so on...

I could stay all night talking about this.
One of the books I enjoyed was the one about the Angel and Demon, writed with Terry Pratchet.

I love Death as well, cyberdark, she's awesome. I'd love a big sister like her!

She's tied with Desire and Wanda (come on, Wanda is amazing) for my fave.
