Smoking is driving me nuts
You know, I always thought I was in control of myself, and normally I am. But I have been trying to quit smoking for god knows how long now, and the longest I have lasted without a smoke was maybe two months, tops.
It just seems like whenever I make that commitment, at some point when I get all relaxed with my friends and someone offers me a smoke, I just kind of change my mind for that brief moment. Then it just starts all over again.

So you have no self control? Gee, that sucks.
Is it possible you're addicted? If so, maybe you should buy some quitting gum.

wow thanks. I have tons of self control, I just don't feel like controlling myself when people offer me free smokes.
I know I'm addicted, that's really a given.

If you really desire to quit smoking, why do you arbitrarily elect to not make use of your awesome self-discipline in commiting to quiting smoking? So you're addicted- get a patch or some gum, do whatever it takes to do what you want to do.
I'm sorry if I'm coming off like an asshole, but I'm having difficulty empathizing with you given that you're problem seems to be your own fickleness.

My problem is that I stop caring about quitting.

Well, is just sounds like you need an incentive to quit. If you really needed to quit, you would always desire to.

Thank the Goddess you know you're addicted. All the kids who smoke where I live deny it. I second the gum, as for refusing the cigarettes... you're on your own for that (unless you get hypnotherapy). You really do have to step back, look at what will happen in thirty years if you don't quit now, and maybe make a list of reasons to quit. I don't want to sound like your elementary school science teacher, but you know how bad it is.

Try not hanging around with smokers, or politely ask them to refrain when you're around.
Apart from that, it really is a self-control issue.

Okay, how's this?
1.Smoking will kill you
2.You'll die
3.You get lung cancer
4.Your life will be much better without it
5.You won't be hurting others with second hand smoke
6.You're only 16, so you smoking is illegal
7.If you have self control, use it!
Chew the gum, but not to often. You can get mouth cancer.
Good luck Alissa!

Try this, it worked for me. Chew the gum, and even when you've been off for a month or two if you have a craving just chew a piece of gum (nicorette gum, obviously). And if someone offers you a smoke just say no and take a piece of gum, easy and simple. Trust me I was a hard smoker and quiting for me was just pure agony. But when I finally got off it, it was so relieving: I have more energy, less fat and better breath lol.
Good luck.

Nope, in Canada you can smoke at the age of 16, there's just no legal way to procure smokes.

I think it is also kind of psychological though
I need something to do with my hands that similar to the movement of smoking to kind of replace it. If that makes sense.

Think of how much more money you would save or have for yourself if you do quit smoking. Big bonus there
It worked for me even though I only smoking for 2 yrs. UGH, nasty!

When you're really ready to quit, you'll be able to say no when someone offers. Till then, just keep trying and don't be too hard on yourself when you fail.
My wife and I did the on-and-off smoking thing for a long time. When she got pregnant, that was what did it for us (not that I'm suggesting pregnancy as a smoking-cessation device!). Now we smoke maybe once a year, and don't have a problem avoiding it the rest of the time.

If you need something to do with your hands, this may sound sad but I smoked a pen for quite some time.
Habits are hard to brake, I found that you sub-consiously (sp?) get used to moving your hands in that way and its very hard to stop. It wasn't hard to quit smoking as such, but it was had not to do the little routine of opening the packet and the hand movement to go with it all.

Try Chantix. It's a new pill they offer that really helps you to quit. My dad knows people who used to go through 2 packs a day and they went to at least one pack in about 2 weeks.
Try it, maybe it'll help.

In all seriousness, I would be a bit careful with things like that, because someday they might expect something in return.
