Ever have a really weird thing happen to you?

We all have odd moments in life, and I had mine. I was in Starbucks reading Vampire Kisses (a rather stupid Vampire book. It has no gore) and it was full. Most customers had to leave because there were no more tables. All of a sudden, this goth girl just sat down infront of me and started talking to me. I was fine with talking but I found it weird how she just sat down at the small table I was at because we had never met. Plus, she talked about how cool goth was and how absolutely proud she was to be it. I found it very strange. After 45 minutes, we both had to go so I asked, "How come you just sat down with me? I don't mind, but still..."

She looked at me weirdly and said, "Don't all goths just hang out whether they know each other or not? Don't they just sit together at places like this because they're goth?" I didn't know whether she was right or wrong, but I still found it very unusual. Then she said, "Sofie, it's me, Sylvia. I was waiting for you to find out."

Me: "Sylvia? Um...who?" Then it hit me: She's the girly girl cheerleader from Camp Qwanoes. The ditzy blonde who was in love with Zac Effron and made a 'hate goth club'. She walked off leaving me stunned. Had this total (excuse my language) girly bitch become goth in less than 1 month? This girl who was obsessed with fashion magazines, mini skirts, boys, and the colour pink? The girl who made a "conformist clique" at the Christian camp (I'm not Christian) and treated me like dirt?

Wink

Weirder things have happened.

At the very least, it sounds like she's looking for some real friends. Perhaps she got tired of all the other stuff. Maybe she's just trying it out to see if it fits her.

If she's really serious about it...and it isn't just something she's doing for Halloween...I'd say give her the benefit of the doubt, because sticking with it's going to be hard for her; she'll probably recieve a lot of ridicule from her former crowd, ya know? It'll take real guts if she -does- make the change..

[Oh, and I -have- had really weird, Twilight Zone-ish things happen, but it's usually stuff a lot freakier and with a lot less explanation than a random person sitting at my table. ]

In my own opinion, Vampire Kisses is a mainstream "goth" series. In the third book (possibly the others), Raven talks about listening to KoRn, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, etc. Ugh.. no thank you..

Try Lost Souls, by Poppy Z. Brite. It is longer, better written, and the characters have MUCH better taste in music.

DarkPrayer, I honestly think you might want to learn some compassion a bit. Yes, it's a bit odd that she did that, but seriously, we are in a way, all fighting against that feeling of isolation. We want to be independent, but we also want to be a part of something. What is independence when you're completely alone? Imagine if you were the only goth on the planet, DarkPrayer. Wouldn't you feel rather lonely and isolated? Though we should never sacrifice our convictions, it is not in our best interests to make such quick presumptions of the convictions of others. Let them show you.

And yes, last time I checked, goths TEND to hang out with each other even if they don't know each other... You know, if you see one, you can at least know a couple of things about them before hand. It's like this: Darkprayer... Why would I ignore you right off the bat if you came to me as you are?

Then again, I could work on my survival skills more.

I have to see that. If that's true, I might just die laughing. And the protagonist is named Raven... Jesus, it's like a bad fanfic.

Not quite...until they add either a prince, a Highlander price, or a Highlander prince who also happens to be a Vampire.

Then it's bad fanfiction.

I personally like unrealistic names in book. If I wanted plain old boring reality, I wouldn't need to read a book.

That's cool. Just remember that what may be considered an 'unrealistic' name in one section of the world may be considered perfectly 'plain old boring reality' in another.

Well.. Raven's *vampire* boyfriend (Alexander Sterling) is rich and what not. Sort of like a prince..

Being born for example...I never really got over that one.

My Geography teacher being nice to me, that's equally strange. Or maybe it's because I handed my coursework in? I'll never know.
But I haven't had anything like that happen to me. A bit out of the ordinary that someone could change so much so quickly. Maybe leopards can change their spots? But I would have been equally dumbfounded in that situation.

I understand. No, I DID know that, but the fatc that she just walked right up to me and sat down uninvited was very shocking to me. Maybe I just have learned my manners quite well and have been affected by polite conduct. I would never do that. But, yes, I alk to people I don't know a lot. I just don't sit down with them without permission.

I WOULD feel lonely and isolated and...really depressed, if I was the only goth. It's bad enough that I am the only one in school. I will try to be more compassionate. Thank you for your advice.

That's JUST what it is. It makes me laugh as well. Plus, it's so stupid that the author put so much time into making the goth characters names goth. I know a goth called Rainbow, one called Sunny as well.

I never said that. ALL of my friends are not goth. Well, I have 1 goth friend, but that is it. I would be lonely because not many people could understand me as well. Accept me, yes, but understand, unlikely.

I am not racist, really I'm not. And if I am, I don't talk about it at ALL. Online, sometimes, offline, no.

Have you tried Stephanie Meyer? According to a friend of mine, the protagonist is named Bella Rose (or something) with a vampire boyfriend named Edward.....
Long story short, she spends most of her time moping about him.

I have so many friends that are addicted to Stephanie Meyers. I read 2-3 pages somewhere in the middle of one of her books just to see how she wrote. It was awful...Awful...
