I've had similar experiences, but only at Chinese or Sushi places. The only two Starbucks that I go to are pretty cool about my friends and I being there. That could be because one is where all my friends work and the other is in SF.

I realize that liquor laws are provincial (and probably COMPLETELY different down South), but here in Ontario, licensed establishments have the right to deny you entry for any reason they see fit. The SmartServe course (a government-offered course which is mandatory for many serving positions) actually mentions dress codes several times. Although DG's threat might scare a lot of small businesses who don't know the rules, it would be extremely difficult to enforce in court, considering the Ontario Liquor License Act.

As for the Starbucks, I'm surprised. You don't often see retail/service staff who are very open-minded.

I usually find Starbucks to be a fairly welcoming place. Every now and then I run into a Goth working there, even.

Awesome deal, DG! I'm not a huge fan of lawyers, but when someone is obviously disrespecting you and denying you basic rights, it's always nice to confront it with a professional.

I live in a fairly small town, and the only Starbucks in town is attached to a Chapters, and is manned by 16-yr old girls with blond pony-tails and far too much make-up. I suppose my experience is far too limited to be making any generalizations, though.

I am not a Starbucks fan, but I love going to this local coffee shop. I am a regular, and I chat with all the coffee making peoples (baristas, I think). This one girl (Steph) is the BEST! We talk about painting. And one of the other girls saw my Bauhaus shirt and asked me if by any chance I liked Joy Division.. oh baby.. we had a 15 minute conversation about Ian Curtis, then we talked about Depeche Mode..
Up until recently, I was called the Bauhaus girl, so I introduced myself.

All the decor there is dark red, gold, and black.. I blend right in.

I love it there..

We don't have any coffee shops here. I live in a very small town. There's not even any other Goths, just me and my guy. (If there are any others, they're hiding!)

I and some others had some trouble in a restaurant once. I was the only goth, the others were pretty much normal, or whatever you want to call it. Anyway, it was late at night and we were stoned. When we went in and took our seats, the waitress came over looking very uncomfortable and told us that their stove was broken and so they wouldn't be able to give us any food. I might have believed that if there hadn't been people eating right in front of me.

My friend asked her if he could have some cheese fries to go, which she allowed. I asked her if I could have a banana split to go and she made up some bullshit about how she couldn't give me one because they're served in glass dishes. I politely asked her if it would be possible for them to put it in a Styrofoam container; then she started to get snotty. So I dropped my politeness and said, "Fine, just forget it" and we walked out. The Omlette Shoppe was happy to take our money.

He's a hacker. And he created a proxy last year (and this year) that banned him from all school computers. And he has been analyzed and told he has a "high IQ which he uses for malicious purposes". And last year, somebody made a rumour that he and his twin were going to shoot up the school at graduation. Since he was the quiet guy in the corner reading a book or on his laptop it was easy to pin stuff on him. When our school had a series of break-ins these were also blamed on him and his brother.

Crap is not a swear word at all. My teachers seem to think so though. My shcool is super strict with stuf flike that. And, I'm afraid I don't get what you mean by cereal. Why should I keep it moist? Either way, I don't eat cereal that often. If I do, it's Fruit Loops dry. (without milk)

The whole prejudice thing happens whith too. I'll walk in dressed in Docs, studded jacket and mohican and people look at me funny and I ususally get seated WAYYYYYY in the back. plus the service is not good WAYYYYYY in the back.

I completely get what you mean! I once waited 30-45 minutes before a waiter came. I was all angry, "I waited 30 minutes here! Isn't there a sing outside that says Excellent Service? Well let me tell you something, this service sucks!" The poor waiter was all nervous. I think he was a newbie.

I was kept out of a pub at Jazz weekend for being too drunk. I don't even drink. They use this bullshit "IN MY OPINION"(said with the most retarded sounding irish accent ever) excuse to get away with things that would otherwise be illegal(discrimination).
