People spend hours putting on makeup because of vanity. It's a simple as that. Power to you if you're not so bound by it, but I see it as just another form of self-expression.

I agree with Saddiction.
I hate being called a "try-hard" and a "fake" just because I like to dress and do my make up in a certain way.
I like expressing myself through my clothing, like an extension of art. Plus, I deem it attractive.....just because the girl/guy next to me prefers to not look that extreme does not mean that they're better than me...or more "real" than me. It's a stupid generalisation.

I sometimes feel as though I've lost touch with the pulse of most any subculture. Let alone goth. I dress in black, but nothing that could be considered extreme. This is more of a comfort issue than anything else. I just don't feel as though the extra effort in the morning is going to make anyone come closer to understanding me.
I would rather have my eloquence, attitude, discontent or what have you, be a reflection of my actions. I don't fault anyone who does go through the motions. It can be an amazing form of self expression. I'm just content to let my status as a rancoteur and ne'er-do-well be based on what I say and do. Not what I wear.

lol i dont care how i look, i wear what ever is avalible in my draw.
if how i dress makes another person label me i find that pretty stupid.
one time i was waiting in a shop for my friend and a little girl lookd up at me and said "are you a goth?" i lookd down and said "no" the older girl lookd at me and said "whats a goth?" i rolled my eyes and walkd out.
i dont try to be goth, but if how i dress is making me have the label, well i cant help that what i dress in is what im comfortable in.
cos the bottom line is i only wear what i know is comfortable to my likings.
im not gonna go buy some "gothic" looking clothes to TRY dress liek a goth, it just happends.

Really, my makeup takes 5 minutes or so :P (unless I fuck it up and make it look like crap xD) And seeing as all my clothing is black, I just pick the first and best in my closet in the morning d:
I agree that spending a million years on your appearance is plain waste of time. But if people want to do that, I'll let them. It doesn't make them less goth, it just proves that they are major time wasters o.o

Im not saying im less fake then anyone else...
I do like the "x treme" look its cool. And I prefer to not look like anyone else. If I could simply snap my finger and have my make up super x treme i would probably do it. I think its cool when people express themselves with their clothes/make up. But it doesnt really seem like selfexpression when there are ten kids who all have the same exact marilyn manson makeup one or even more. It would be somewhat different if they were actually original with it........

This is something that you should have specified in your initial post. Furthermore, it's doubtful that 'Marilyn Manson' make-up takes anymore than 15 minutes to apply.

And even further, if we're talking about marilyn manson clone wannabes, why are punk and goth fake?

Dude, you have to work in your spelling. We have a collective pet peeve when it comes to not writing properly.

Every now and then it's ok, but it would be annoying never to see a capital letter in your posts. There's no real reason why not to do it.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH H
In my original post I was thinking about a broad number of people...
SO this thread isnt specified to only one type of person.. Goth and punk were just the most topical being this is gothic.net
And allot of people classify mansonites as goths so I threw them in...
Anyways It was just a feeling I got from allot of people.....

I mean, this is a literature forum, and good typing and grammer kinda goes hand in hand with that in my opinion.
Also, yes...it is annoying.

Look. He told you nicely, just do it.
We have our own cute little culture on this forum, and it includes using English that is immaculate as possible.
So, use caps, use punctuation, and spell things as best as you can.
And don't get uppity about it.

There is nothing wrong with takeing some time To look your best. As long as you are doing it for you and not so other people can see you, I always feel more confidant if I look good.

Excuse me? You talk about "throwing on some clothes and going" as if it were the normal thing for any person to do. Not only is it a proof of lack of respect towards yourself going out looking like hell, but it's also lack of respect towards other people. No one needs to see you dressed in something that resembles your pijamas.

Just because you throw on some clothes doesn't mean you'll look bad.
And who the hell cares if other people think you look bad? They might think that even if you spent hours on your look.

When we want your monkey-brained opinions, we'll rattle your cage, okay? Is that a conclusion, or simply the place where you got tired of thinking? Anyway, who was talking to you or even taking you under consideration?

Um. She was typing shittily, so we told her how we do things here.
I don't really know what relevance your cute keychain quip has to do with anything, but I guess I don't need to.
