Iced Earth guitarist convicted
Well, not really spooky news, but I just wanted to share. I had been waiting for over a year for this trial, and it is finally over. He was convicted of 2 counts of first degree r@pe, and 1 count of first degree kidnapping. Some of the highlights from this psycho's testimoney, who finally admitted to kidnapping the victim off the street, but then said after being abducted she consented to what happened after, so he was not guilty of r@ping her:
"Maybe I wasn't thinking clearly," Carletti said about pulling the woman into his car May 22, 2003, then shackling her arms and legs and duct taping her eyes shut. "It was just part of the effect. I didn't say she wanted it, but she did not deny it."
The victim has testified that he had a gun, which he denied in court last week. As he drove off, he asked the woman: "Mind if I handcuff you?" "I'm not saying it was courtship, but it is something we discussed," he said. After handcuffing her, Carletti said he shackled her legs and put duct tape over her eyes and drove to his home. When asked why he would blindfold her, Carletti said it was done for "effect."
The logic of his defense was just MINDBOGGLING.

The thought process of psychos like this, in trying to justify their actions, is just crazy.

Wow, that's the lamest defense I've ever heard.
She didn't want it. Frickin psycho.

Holy fuck!!! Just fricken insane. And such poor excuses. "It was just part of the effect. I didn't say she wanted it, but she did not deny it." Just retarded.

lol, I mean, I understand what his attorney was trying to do. Ernie had denied ever seeing the victim, saying it was a case of mistaken identity. But, when the police revealed that they had his fingerprints on the duct tape that was used on her, I guess his attorney realized there was no way he could plead not guilty to that. So, then he pleads guilty to kidnapping her, which is only a Class B felony so he could have walked after spending only a year or two in prison. The r@pe charges are Class A felonies that carry a 15 year minimum to life term.
I guess he was hoping to be found guilty only of the kidnapping, and not the r@pe charges. He's a sick, twisted sociopath...I'm so elated that he's finally where he belongs! I've been worrying myself sick for the past year that he would end up getting off on some technicality or something.
I liked the part where his excuse for kidnapping the girl was that he "maybe wasn't thinking clearly". It's almost comical.

The fucked-up thing is that it says that he has done this before! People like that should not be allowed to walk the streets, and also whatever he did should be done to him in prison.

I wonder if this is ever going to get reported on the band's news page?
Anyway, I'm very happy he is getting convicted as sex offenders are some of the lowest of the low. As far as I'm concerned, they are as bad as child abusers.
I'm also happy the sentencing for **** is much more harsh in the US than it is here in the UK.
And yes, his defense was hardly a legal masterpiece. I can almost see the jury members thinking to themselves "Yeah.. Right."

I disagree with that. I don't think we have the right to punish someone else by hurting them. (Other than prison.)

Thankfully it's Iced Earth, if it was Metallica or Slayer we would never hear the end of it.

Well, not officially, no! I'm sure that once it gets around what he's in there for, the prison populous will take care of him in one form or another.

I'm pretty sure in Delaware, sex offenders have their own "section" of the jail.

Roger that!
I don't suppose there are any Administrators or Moderators floating around are there? Because I don't think I've ever seen one.
Although, I do wear glasses for a reason.

Well, the owner/admin/mod known as Gothic.Net does post in the general section sometimes, but it doesn't seem to bother with the rest of the board. We have a place to talk, so it seems it's up to us to keep it clean- the landlord won't deal with infestations of trolls.
