Hi, sort of a hybrid I guess
1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)
You will find me working in the dwindling pine flat woods of the American Southeast coastal plain. To many these are incorrectly called swamps they associate with misery of bugs, snakes, alligators, heat & high humidity. It is true these things live here in the heat & humidity but those people do not see the richest wildlife ecosystem in North America for the diversity of flora & fauna.
It is in the realm of the alligator that you will find me doing part time research for the redneck Georgia and Florida during a few various times of the year if I'm lucky and funds aren't cut off.
Luckily for me a great deal of my hobbies & passions wrap around the outdoors because it helps offset the tiny paychecks.
A favorite hobby is consuming adult beverages until I pass out or puke, sometimes both at the same time while I listen to music. The music is always loud, it always will be loud no matter what year it is and even if the ringing in my ears turns to numb deafness I will still feel the bass vibrations to know the song.
2. Where are you from?
I'm from the Washington DC area though I find myself trapped in a purgatory of west coast Florida. A nice place but it has a tilted backward spiraled population.
3. Who is your favorite author?
For fiction HP Lovecraft and Clive Barker.
I do read authors in this (horror) theme, yet I've never picked up a Ann Rice book.
The majority of my reading is non-fiction.
4. What are your favorite films?
Horror, the best of the best would be the 2nd (non George Romero) version of "Dawn of the Dead". The Zombie trilogy by Romero is awesome with Day of the Dead topping the list too. Yet his last and long awaited "Land of the Dead" just sucked awful. What a bust.
The Shining is top notch.
Return of the Living Dead, that's a good watch still. Hostel wasn't a good watch the first time though I gave it a chance.
Bram Stoker's Dracula directed by Francis Ford Coppola is a favorite vampire flick. Another excellent vampire film would be John Carpenters Vampires. Carpenter's work is classic - The Fog, Halloween but what happened? Like my Horror God Romero the last flick I watched by him was asinine "Ghost of Mars"........ what was he thinking?
I watch a lot of Sundance and IFC, like Indies.
Rules of Attraction and Clerks are a couple of other examples of movies I like.
After Hours was a great dark comedy!
A lot of movies but you get the idea.
5. What music do you want played at your wedding?
This will never happen.
6. At your funeral?
Led Zeppelin "In My time of Dying"
Psyclon nine " Inri"
.... closing with "Burn the flames" and Wednesday 13 does the version that best fits me.
7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?
Nothing like a big handful of sleeping pills and a bottle of Jack Black, one can never forget that the taste of anti-freeze is sweet and complete.
8. What kind of casket would you want?
I feel no need for a personal casket, The earth is the casket, & I am the dust that is already on her.
9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?
Any of the stuff I used to wear when I was in a band from my black metal days, now slowly evolving into my Goth attire. Black, steel, spikes, chained - tied - bound tortured soul, gray, leather, with a touch of sanguine.
10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?
cloudy snowy days riding my sled.
11. What's your favorite band?
Bathory....
Goth ; A tie between Sisters of Mercy and the Cure.
today I'm listening to Peter Murphy, Christian death, 69 eyes, Cult, Wumpscut, H.I.M, after mentioning Return of the Living Dead I've pulled out 45 Grave Party time, and I'm very fond of Pscylon Nine "CROWN THY FORNICATOR " .
12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?
B.S. Biology , University of NC, Chapel Hill. Botany ecology
13. Why did you join?
I'm a 35 yr old gay guy, and I lost my partner of 12 yrs to cancer a few months ago. It isn't easy. Music has always been a important element of my social life prior
My partner wasn't into my music scene, there aren't a lot of gay guys into metal music, but the type of music I've always been into is all similar. Most people I know can't tell the difference between Goth, dark wave, industrial, death rock, horror rock, black metal, symphonic metal, gothic metal, heavy metal, operatic metal, symphonic power metal, progressive metal, epic metal, heavy gothic metal so once you get past Depeche Mode and a little NIN to most of my partners friends & Family think every thing I listen to is depressing and satanic.
I'm basically left where I was before I met my partner only 12 yrs later, & I 12 years older. That's sort of interesting because its like going to bed in 1995 and waking up the next day only the next day is in 2007 and I'm sort of isolated from a scene I was very active in at that time. Sort of out of place now age wise. Like a Tuatara (a lizard looking animal thing) cut off from its deceased dinosaur family and survives on a desolate island as it has without change for thousands of years.
...really I don't even get or agree with all the sub-genera's but I have at least a good idea, and none of it is Madonna or Brittany.
But make no mistake I've very well versed with the actual music regardless of how one class's it. I know that I have no problem listening to Satyricon"s Dark Medieval Times and follow with Clan of Xymox . Though I need not be told both are not Goth. I've noticed that there are many anal retentive people who get all pissed off if someone mentions a metal band or a Goth band in the others forum, and to each there own but if someone names Nine Inch Nails along with topic specific bands as a band they like on a list in a forum devoted towards a certain type of music it fits to me.
Take Care

Whoo, moar queer goths! 69 Eyes and HIM in the goff area aside, ya had me at ROTLD. I went to the 25th anniversary in Hollywood, but I didn't get anything signed...*sniffle*
The sequels are garbage though and virtually everyone deserved to die in that movie, even the token black dude and especially that raver in the last one.

Welcome!
(Ghost of Mars was quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen...so, yeah, I concur!)

I'm so sorry for your loss!
You seem to be well-rounded. Welcome to the boards, and I hope things get better for you, dear! Most of us don't bite! You like my two favourite bands (Cure, SOM) so you're all right with me.
Enjoy your stay!

Sucks about your partner, man. I extend my condolences.
You know, a lot of people don't appreciate John Carpenter's Vampires, but I've always found it to be a fairly kickass cinematic work.
Welcome to gnet.

Condolences about your lost lover, kitten. You'll find we can be a welcoming lot here, and that we're particularly nice to those who follow protocol when they're new (well done!), use correct spelling and grammar (well done!) and offer us something about themselves so we know who we're talking to (well done!).
I hope you enjoy your time here. I'm not aware of any American goth resource pages, but it shouldn't be too hard for me to trawl up some kind of regular event in your area- if you'd like a starter back into the clubs, that is.

^^ What they all said.
And about the age thing - not everyone on here is 15 years old either - you'll find some older people who are very knowledgable (not that 15 year-olds aren't) *oh, this is the part where I should shut up...*
Welcome, is actually what I wanted to say.
