The One They Stopped
Remember the high school massacre in Finland? The one where the shooter posted a lot of information online?
Well, in Hudson Valley they prevented one, based on posted material on Myspace.
From TFA:
" State police arrested three Hudson Valley high school students Wednesday and charged them with plotting to attack their school on the 11th anniversary of the Columbine attacks.
The arrests followed an investigation of a threat described on the online social networking site, MySpace.com. Police said the students posted messages and photos describing an attack planned for April 20, 2010, at Arlington High School in LaGrangeville, about 65 miles north of New York City."

Illegal posession of firearms, conspiracy to first degree murder, and aggravated stupidity.

While great that they stopped a schoolattack, this probably leads to increased surveillance of community sites like MySpace etc. Not that any users would know but still... stupid laws can come from it.

'A planned attack for 2010'. Yeah right. Little boys planning an attack is equal to little girls planning the perfect wedding. I don't think in a few years they would have done it.
But hey, America loves to prosecute children, it leads the world in jailing individuals under the age of 18, no reason to treat these lads any different.
I mean, whats better - killing your classmates and then committing suicide, OR getting kicked out of school and into juvenile detention for attempting to (or in this case 'planning in a few years' to).
One way you die, the other way you really do nothing other than talk and become a legend in your own town, plus live to talk about it and have everyone fear you.
Who really wins?

Well yes, an attack planned for a date in three years is not an immediate threat. They might gow out of it. So now one should just ignore them and let them keep planning?
It is alarming enough that they have come to the idea of planning to attack their school in the first place. Well, not just come to the idea, we all do at some point of our school-child-existance....but that they actually started PLANNING. I don't know about you but I prefure taking precautions earlier than a day before someone planns to blow my brains out.
So in any case, either these guys are freakin bored to death or they really have problems. Whatever the case they should be examined...maybe not arrested. And if arrested than for first degree stupidity. If you plan to blow up you school, kids, don't fuckin' shout to the whole world about it!

Actually, I'm glad they stopped the kids when they did, even if they had to arrest them to do it.
Besides that, "arrested" and "sent to jail for the rest of their lives" isn't necessarily the same thing; they probably spent, at the most, a couple of days in jail itself; hopefully it 'scared them straight', and they won't try something like this again.
If these kids are old enough to contemplate and plan out killing their classmates and teachers, then they are old enough to answer for such serious charges, imho.
