'proof of residency' shit

argh!! i'm so pissed off!
i need to get a Nevada ID (a license is just too complicated to get right now, as i only have a Florida permit)
i need a job here..and i would've have a bank account, except for the stupid proof of residency requirement.
i have no proof, except for mail from my parents. i dont pay the bills so my name isnt on anything really.
i feel like im getting nowhere with this. i checked the Nevada DMV website and it didn't help. I did email them though.
Anyone ever been in this situation before?

Usually, any mail addressed to you is considered valid proof of residence because it has your name, your address, and a postal stamp on it. (It's the postal stamp that makes it valid.)

Well, it also comes down to the rules of that state's DMVs.

I just looked at the Nevada DMV site. If you're getting just an ID, all you need is a birth certificate (either the original or an official copy, which means that it has to have a raised stamp on it) and a social security card. If you have those two, you don't need anything else. As far as residency, the way the rules are, just about anyone can be considered a resident. Seriously, one of the things that's considered a resident is anyone "Who declares himself to be a resident of this state to obtain privileges not ordinarily extended to nonresidents of this state."

Doesn't that mean just about anyone can walk in, declare themselves a resident and reap the benefits? Surely there must be a better form of jurisdiction than that!

well, i do want a library card and you cant get that without being a resident. haha.
actually, i just got a reply from the DMV, and i don't need to provide proof. All i have to do is write down my address on the application.
So, yay!
And that means i can get a bank account. Last month i had trouble with it because all i had was a florida driving permit, birth certificate, and SSN. I needed to have some form of Nevada ID or license to prove residency. And now i can! er, i will..not sure when i'm going to go and get the ID.
Thanks for the help guys.

Welcome to NV. It's a crazy state, very different from other parts of the country. Glad to hear you got everything straightened out. Another good thing, I don't know if you know this, but NV has no state income tax. You still pay federal, of course, but all the stuff the state does is paid for by taxes on the casinos, not on the people. It helps a little bit, anyway.

Today I was at the DMV and I got so pissed because they wouldn't let me take my test because I didn't have my birth certificate. I need to get my license and I've taken the permit test already it expired, so I needed to take it again- I am already in the system and everything have my paper, have three proofs of residency, have my school id- voter registration, have my old permit...and yet they wont take anything unless I have my birth certificate which I cant even find.

mindless1 If you absolutely cannot find it contact either the hospital where you were born or the main courthouse in that town/city. Both are required to keep a copy of your birth certificate. (The 'official' [notarized] copy will be at the courthouse. If you wind up with a copy, you can make it 'official', i.e. stamped, by taking it to a Notary Public). Been there myself.
