Painful holidays
It happens to almost everyone at some point in time, your special day when you get together with family and friends, ends with a special visit to the family of friendly people at the Hospital or just simply with you going into the warm hug of your blanket as you get some much needed bedrest. Share your stories here.
Just yesterday Chrismas day I stubbed and apparently either sprained or broke my big toe.
Also on St. Nick's day (which is also my birthday) back when I had just turned 7 I got a pinkeye infection.

I usually get despondent around Christmas, despite the fact that I like almost everything about it, and have friends and family that I see.
Maybe it's the turkey and mashed potatoes that I'm obligated to eat at the family dinner. :P I really don't care for turkey day foods, turkey days being Thanksgiving and Christmas and other times when one ritually has turkey...
That and there's a lot of pressure to be happy and joyous around this time of year, and I generally have a hard time doing that -_-'
I caught lice from my friend right after Christmas when I was about 8. My new bean-bag chair-thing had to go out in the garage for 3 weeks.
This year, our firewall in our fireplace is broken, so we couldn't have a fire. We usually have a nice fire in our fireplace in which we burn empty orange boxes (they burn REALLY impressively).
Last year we had a green Christmas. It was raining on fucking Christmas day. It snowed beautifully on Boxing Day, but...
This year we also had a bunch of warm weather that melted half our snow, which was, originally, more than we had at any time last winter.
And I don't like New Year's Day, or Eve, for that matter.

Last year, I spent all of Christmas day arguing with my then boyfriend over absolutely nothing, and then trying to keep him from killing himself. He drunk dialed me and called me the biggest whore he knew, for no reason, and it just got so completely out of hand. It was the worst Christmas I have ever had. Luckily, he repeated the process Sunday rather than actually on Christmas, so I could have a decent holiday.

One Christmas I got tonsillitis and I was sick the whole day Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I couldn't stop throwing up and my tonsils were HUGE.
Then one Christmas my brother was really sick and he was in the hospital getting a spinal tap and he was so, so sick. He couldn't come home until the day after.

My dad's gone to the hospital, I've had the flu and couldn't go to dinner... that's about it.

About a week ago, I went to the health center at my school and found out I have Mono.
I pretty much just woke up.
Oh. And I can't kiss anyone for a month.

12/26/94: Christmas is over & now its a smooth cruise into New Years.
Or so I thought.
That night I had my usual late evening snack of a ham & cheese sandwich & some cheesy Doritos chips. Shortly thereafter I get siezed with incredibly painful abdominal craps. I go to the privee and spend the next 20 minutes or so in writhing pain that gets bad enough that I pass out.
Had the title star from the Aliens flicks come busting out of me I wouldn't have been surprised.
EMS was called & was pronounced sound, probably suffering from some kind of food poisoning.
For the next week, however, I end up not able to hold anything down. What goes down gets shot out shortly thereafter. Within the next 3 or 4 weeks I'll go from 175 pounds down to 145, with general practioner docs to gastrointerologists going "we don't know what the hell's wrong with him!"
Thus began my fracked up life with lactose intolerance & irritable bowel syndrome. Its been a slow climb back to looking healthy. On the bright side, my restrictive diet has kept me slim & medicine has finally made some headway in understanding the disorders. It was another thing entirely, 10 years ago. I still occasionally get weird looks when I say I can't eat certain everyday things.

Thanksgiving, 1998: The right side of my face is mysteriously paralyzed. Nobody believed me when I said something was wrong. They thought I was pretending that my mouth was all screwed up, my eye and basically that whole side drooping. I couldn't even keep my food or drink from dribbling down on that side, so I had to resort to eating on the left.
Turns out it was Bell's Palsy when I finally did go to the emergency room. This was bad for me because I played trumpet in my school's orchestra, which set me back for several months. I had to wear an eye patch for about two months, so as not to irritate the (then believed) weakened eye. I got feeling back in my face around March/April, but the end result left me with a lazy eye and an aversion to taking pictures head-on if I can help it.

Every years since I was about 4 I got strep throat as a lovely Christmas present (strep throat that was bad enough to create bunches of scar tissue on the back of my throat) but this year I seem to be nice an healthy ^.^

I had the same problem until I found a doc to take out my tonsils a couple years back. Worked great. Was a very painful experience though...

Girl you need to get rid of this guy (if you havent already). If this is the same guy you're talking about who was abusive and out of control which you mentiond in another topic, you really need to get rid of that asshole. You deserve better.

Whoa I misread this a bit he called you back this week sunday? I think somone needs to have a talk with this selfish brat. When somone threatens to kill themselves because they are angry at somone else it is an extremely selfish act and if anything extremely unlikely because the level of selfishness required to perform the act also makes it so they arn't going to actualy do it. If somone is really suicidal they are doing it for the sake of others around them and are seeking to do anything to make themsleves less of a burden on others while your ex was trying to create a huge burden of guilt for you. Just call the police on him and be done with him.

DeathtoLems-Yes, it was the same guy as I mentioned in another thread. We broke up a month or two ago, and I attempted to have a friendship with him because I do like him as a person, and also because I worry about him and wanted to be able to check in on him and make sure he was doing ok. Unfortunately, he claims he cannot handle having only a friendship with me, and doesn't approve of my friendships with other men.
Renatus-I'm not going to call the police on him. Even with all the shit he's done, he's a decent guy, and more than anything, he's a good father to his three kids, and I would never do anything to jeopardize his custody of his children.
Anyways, thanks for your concern folks, but the guy has been dealt with, so no worries.

I have a friend who's ex threatened her to keep her unborn baby or he would kill himself. I told her "don't take that shit from him, hes going to leave you either way. Dump that asshole, hes a prick for threatening you like that"
She got rid of the baby and he left her anyways. Then he went out with some other girl and stole from her. All I can say was she was lucky she wasnt the one he stole from, because if she kept the baby her life would have been fucked (no offence to single mums) knowing he was going to leave her or not even be a decent father.

This Christmas, I got sick and I ended up spending Christmas alone for a long while.
A few Christmases ago, when people were getting that deadly flu and dying from it, well I ended up getting it. I had a fever of 104 for 4 days and the clinics wouldn't see me because they were all overfilled with patients.
I guess I have bad luck. =p
