Greetings from Lady_Corbin

Finally capitulated - signing on. (Like I need anything else to read/write.)

Umm, waddya wanna know?

1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)
I'm a trainer for a software package for the TV industry. Yeah, training salespeople. Yeah, Goth. Figure it out. Corp Goth is a big issue for me; how to be me without freaking out the neo-cons. After work, I have a little Queen Anne that I'm trying to renovate, including a Victorian garden. I'm also active in the SCA, where I keep a Gothic persona. That's 15th-century Gothic. Europe. Get it? Good.

2. Where are you from?
Originally eastern Kansas. The University of Kansas was a great place to be goth in the 80's. I'm in Denver now, freaking the neighbors (goth-girl gardens in the middle of the night) and trying to avoid the gangs.

3. Who is your favorite author?
Hmm. That's a toughie. I'm doing historical fiction right now, but fantasy is always on the shelf, too. No particular author. I must admit to a guilty pleasure in Harry Potter which I resisted until the 3rd book came out. Not one to go for "the next big thing".

4. What are your favorite films?
Anything with atmosphere but not a lot of gore. Anything with Rickman, Bonham-Carter, Branagh, Depp. Yeah, I love the "feel" of the recent HP films. I also have a collection of Shakespearian movies.

5. What music do you want played at your wedding?
I have no plans to be married. Again. Besides, "Famous Last Words" doesn't set the proper tone.....

6. At your funeral?
Early music - Tallis Scholars, for instance.

7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?
Conventionally. Nothing tragic. Old. In love. Acting 30 years younger than my age.

8. What kind of casket would you want?
None. I'm claustrophobic. Burn me. Put the ashes in an urn on the mantle. A real urn, not one of those sanitary boxes. OTOH, I've always wanted a Victorian grave marker - draped urn, mourning angel, a garden enclosed by a decaying wrought-iron fence. Something like that.

9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?
In my closet? I have a Nomads jacket that I love, black lace over purple lining, bell sleeves, corset lacing. It gets worn variously with a straight velvet skirt, or a tiered cotton skirt, the one with the raw edges out. For afternoon tea, the black cloche with the old purple roses, and lace glovettes are a must. The black and purple striped tights concealed/revealed under the long skirt are always a hit.

10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?
Not noticing the heat of summer.

11. What's your favorite band?
Again, no favorites. Mostly anything termed "alternative" from the 80's forward. (I'll always regret skipping that concert at the Student Union when I was in college. Some band called "REM". Dammit.)

12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?
My education has been self-induced; learning from experience, researching on my own, whatever strikes my fancy. I completed some college, mostly art education; I don't think that you get an "education" in college.

13. Why did you join?
Community, clothing, music, giggling at baby bats.

14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?
Well, I do know men who wear skirts (damned sexy if you ask me), but I'm not one of them.

Yeah, I'm kind of working on that one myself. I found that making small changes to my appearance over a gradual period of time seems to be flowing well with my colleagues. At least I'm at a point now where I can wear all black and have black nails at the same time without getting strange stares.

Oh, the joys of office work.

The fun part of my job is that I show up at a TV station in BFN and I'm there for three or four weeks. There's no "gradual period"; they get me like they get me. I've found that being exceptionally polite and competent and, yes, cheerful, makes up for any shock value. So far only one person - a local sales manager who was a bit unique herself - has used the g-word. I was handing out dark chocolates. She thought it perfectly apropos.

My company is, interestingly enough, pretty progressive. No one would blink twice if I came into the office with purple hair. But I'm not in the office all that much.

You sound like an excellent individual, I do hope that you'll stay here and be active. It's nice to see such a well written introduction with genuine personality instead of three and four word answers to the traditional questions.

Welcome! Together we will slowly invade the workplace and blaze the trail making Goths around the world welcome in the cubical land!

I too am a Corporate Goth, and agree with your approach of gradual change once hired. Here I am today:

and on other days:

Another couple of inches and my ponytail will be long enough to dye purple. I already told my boss, and he said " I used to dye my hair too!"

Another decade and people will be able to wear torn fishnet sleeves to company meetings!

Oh, and do you know anyone from the big Denver goth organization, The Denver Hearse Association?

Some famous Goths by where you live.

Welcome!
