Just Introducing myself...
Hello my name is Devin Rickard, I am from Canada, I just recently got a suggestion to go goth due to my lifestyle and personality. I love Death Metal, Gothic, Dark, Black, etc. I am a Satanist (don't judge me), and I have more, But I am no in the mood at the moment, so if you feel like learning more about me please go right ahead and add me on MSN.

Nice to meet you. Just warning you, you MIGHT get flamed to holy hell. Goth culture has nothing to do with black metal or death metal but rather goth rock and deathrock. I hope you don't get your ass handed to you.

Okay, I'm going on a rant. This isn't criticism, I'm just giving you an explanation, mmkay?
You don't just "go goth." You have to be exposed to goth music and see what you think of it before you even begin to attempt to "join" the subculture. Even after two or three years of listening to legitimate goth music, I still consider myself a "beginner." It's not a sort of "I'm gonna throw on some black eyeliner and a lacy black dress and - tada! I'm a goth" thing. The person who recommended "goth" to you based on personality and lifestyle is a complete idiot, sorry, because there is no such thing as a typical goth personality/lifestyle. Goths may appreciate "darker" things and be generally open-minded, but there are many exceptions to the rule and a broad spectrum of personalities. Because we're humans. We're not any different than country fans, punks, metalheads, or any other group you can slap a label on. Same goes with lifestyle choices. Some goths like to go to clubs, while some like to chill out at home and would rather eat shards of glass than go clubbing. Again, this can be said for any group of people.
I'm not sure if you think metal is goth, occultism is goth, or if you think that dressing in all black is necessary to be a goth, but even if you don't, I'm not sure if you have any idea what you're getting yourself into. My first instinct is that you believe goth to be a fashion style. It's not.
IT IS A TYPE OF MUSIC. And an umbrella term for many subgenres of music. A goth is a fan of goth music. That's all, and nothing more. A lot of goths may like horror films, wearing black, wearing makeup, reading Poe, etc., etc., but those are secondary and unnecessary traits. All that matters is the music.
I'm gonna be reeeal nice and tell you a few things.

The Sisters of Mercy
The Cure
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Christian Death
And tell me what you think. Again, I'm not saying you're a bad person/poseur/whatever, I'm just double-checking that you understand what you're getting into.

I know that gothics do judge,,, I fink... =]
I do listen to some goth music btw Green.Lady, and I don't think that Goth is metal I know what it is... somewhat......
And Gothicasmaximus or whatever, I am studying the lifstyle of this subculture, ... So I know at least a little bit about it, and I plan on studying it before I actually become one or not...
PS. Thanks for the whatever you want to call it, Criticism?
And I hope to soon be goth, or even a beginner as Green.Lady puts it, so thanks for the stuff... and I don't know if any of my crap is making sense/// So if you need to criticize me more please go ahead, maybe this will help me be better educated on this subculture,... =]

Welcome, you might want to do some research on the history of goth and goth music. Some people might be offended if you go around yelling "SATAN IS MINE MASTER!!", though, so be forewarned.

Yeah that just won't cut it for a response, stupid is as stupid does.
Also uh work on your makeup, or better yet just stop using makeup. Makeup isn't a requirement to be a goth but there are many who are very good with it, you're not one of them.

Ok first off, I wasn't trying to be goth in my picture, That was on new years, me and my friends were screwing around.
Secondly, I am not gunna go around on the forums yelling "Satan is my master"...
Thirdly, I do find myself stupid XD,..., and I am currently in Highschool so yeah...
And lastly, I am "studying" <Key Term< , this subculture, and the lifestyles of it, so far someone told me that goths are arrogant... =?
so yes, please criticize me more, I love it =p

Yeeeah, LeVay Satanism at least makes sense to a degree given that its followers don't acknowledge the existence of any true 'devil' or 'satan'. Dedicating your soul the Satan of the christian mythos is a questionably prudent course of action given that it essentially entails condemning yourself to eternal fiery torment in the afterlife.

I agree that you don't know much about goth, even by my fairly low standards. First of all, everyone is judgemental, goths just limit judgement to what you say and do. Secondly, goths are no more arrogant than anyone else. We're normal people for the most part, we just enjoy different things.
You also can't just say "You know what? I wanna be a goth!" without understanding what it is. Expose yourself to it, and if you like it, join in the fun, sure. But don't try to become something you don't understand.
Now that I'm done being a bit of an ass, welcome to g-net. I hope you last long enough to learn.
