Oh, my dear...the people who see me irl do not laugh; they know better.

Yes, I go into Hot Topic on occasion, but I prefer the romanti-goth and the corporate goth [i. e., the grown-up styles] to the big pants and band T-shirts. While those are fine for some, it's really not my thing. [You are more likely to find me in a well-tailored black suit or perhaps a real corset as opposed to the fake corsets and such you find at HT.]

As for Scooby-Doo, I very much enjoyed that cartoon as a kid. ^_^ The modern movies of it aren't the best, but they aren't absolutely horrible either.

I think my favorite was seeing Buffy-I-Mean-Daphne beat up on a bunch of uglies in one of those movies..

[Also, I'd like you to keep in mind that I'm not alone here in the folks who still enjoy Goth music and their own unique style, and also feel perfectly comfortable going into an HT on occasion. If you do not feel comfortable there, then, by all means, feel free to not enter one of their establishments. And if the little pseudo-goth kids aggravate you that much, then you can either figure out a way to teach them 'better' that isn't vastly embarrassing, or you can ignore them.]

You can still shop there once in a while you know. As long as it isn't a majority of your wardrobe I see no reason not to. Sometimes they do have really good sales. I can stencil and I can sew SOME things, but I could never sew my pants tighter the right way. And so, I go there for the skinny jeans. =]

This is the music and books we like, the darkness is beautiful. The darkness is our secret. Its just lame thats it is soooooo mainstream now. It makes it cheap... less creative but thats just my take on it and I'm a writer and a musician and I think expression is blood, my life force, but I might just be being a little dramatic...

My dad is a musician, so I understand where you are coming from. At the same time, though, I think the passion for self-expression tends to fade after one enters the [dun dun DUUN!!] Working World.

Unless of course you get a hella good job playing your passion. In which case, I suppose it's possible to hang on to it.

Yeah. Peter Murphy totally set out to 'found' some 'goth' movement. All of it was thoroughly premeditated. In fact, Ian Collins, Siouxsie, and ESPECIALLY Andrew Eldritch were all in on it, they'd conference call every night to talk about how well their subculture was coming along.
I agree that Hot Topic is lame, but Korinna never said she bought her clothes there, just that she happened to be in one, so your attack was a little preemptive.

Go read moron, it would benefit you. Especially about a scene you are in, that you apparently have no clue about.

I don't really give a fuck if people call me names for where I shop; If I see something I like at HT, a thrift store, Noir Leather, Macy's, or Target, and I have the money, I'll buy it. I really don't care what a bunch of "rebellious" 15 years olds have to say about me.

I will wear what I want, when I want, and from where I want. If you don't like that, you're not worth my time.

If someone actually had the audacity to call me a "conformist" because they decided to jump on the "I'm a non-comformist because I don't shop at popular stores, therefore I'm better you" bandwagon, I'd probably spit on them.

Here's to hoping you always feel that way! *toasts you with a glass of red wine*

In all seriousness, the corporate machine is evil and greedy, but unfortunately necessary. :/

I have to say, I share this sentiment, although without the spitting part.

If a person is really comfortable with their fashion style, then they will be happy with it no matter where they get their clothes from. *shrug*

Also, this kind of high school attitude of "Ohmigaah!! I can't, like, BELIEVE you, like, shop there! That's, like, sooooooo lame!1" got old for me a long time ago; I didn't appreciate it when I was in high school over a decade ago, and I appreciate it even less now as a grown woman; it's just ridiculously juvenile.

I love people who get all uppity and pretentious about subcultures. Guh, worry about something important, for once.

Yeah...I never cared where any of my friends shopped or what they wore in High School. I still don't. I may not like the style of clothes that are sold at Abercrombie, but I would never not befriend someone because of where they shopped or what they wore. People aren't their clothes.

Dude, if you think goth was founded on purpose and solely by Bauhaus, I really have no idea what to say to you.

Heh heh. It seems that Mr. Z is a bit too eager to hang on to the whole 'goff' label. XD

Mentality of a militant 'goff': "Oh NOES!!1 Sum-1 resembles my subculture but dey aren't like ME!! How dare they borrow something from my culture to make it their own!!1 How dare they try to uniquely conform to something like I do!! They must DIE!!!!111111 >:O "

I'm seriously starting to suspect that dude is -not- 19...

He may be nineteen. He's just haughty and has difficulty articulating his ideas in a civil way. For instance, if a more socially capable person believed that Goth as a subculture was founded intentionally and solely by Bauhaus, he might have responded to my insinuation that his assumption was incorrect with a link to a website or the name of a book that supported his idea, instead of unavailing insults.
He's not a bad person, nor is he really all too dumb in my opinion, just unskilled at coping with the intimation that he's wrong and not too great defending himself against those intimations.

CorpGoth is so where is is at... ^_^

On topic, I ventured into HT once. It seems like it more directed towards the 'scene' fashion and emo. And they didn't have any of the music I was looking for.

depthsofspace I do agree with you on how HT has changed or atleast it really has around here. I talk to a few employs and from what they said its because there is more sales in that type of fasion. I myself still shop at HT on the ocasion to find some tripp pants I like. For myself I love wearing tripp pants just something about baggy pants with chains and straps attracts me.

im 31 moron. i am just not some cutesy little trendy poser (unlike some people apparently[i dont even feel the need to look goth or punk anymore]). i actually don't see other punks and goths and care to make friends with them automatically, it's called being critical, if you evaluated yourself and saw how sad you are, maybe you'd understand why some people are mean to you and it shows how stupid you really are when all you can do is burst out in standard internet lingo to form some sort of an insult. people below the age of 25 make such status quo insults over the internet, because they are not all that smart or all that creative. really if you are going to try to imply i am young, perhaps you should refrain exhibiting the habits youngsters display when they play around on the internet, hypocrite.

No, you are not 31, dearie; before you deleted your info, I saw quite clearly that you are 19.

Also, if you were 31 and you were still this deeply worried about the little kids from HT [and what's more, if you were 31 and still not able to take critique for that pseudo-intellectualism thing, and calling random people lame just because they dared to step foot in one once], then you would still be a teenager in maturity level if not physicality.

Also also, if you are 31, then why did you originally put in your info that you were 19? That doesn't make any sense at all. In fact, it's sort of creepy..

Do you not see the irony in attributing "status quo insults" and lack of creativity to someone you just used the word "stupid" to describe?Where's the creativity in that? Or in complaining about people assuming you're young, then slagging all under-25s as "not that smart"?

In summary, it helps if you show intelligence yourself when denouncing another as stupid.

I went into Hot Topic looking for a Tom Waits T-shirt. They didn't have one, but I managed to find what I was looking for over the internet. I DID, however, find the complete catalogue of Invader Zim, which is odd because neither FYE or Best Buy had the series.

While I was in there I was wondering something: What do the employees of HT think of themselves? Do they consider themselves to be the Alpha and Omega of a subculture catering to wannabes?

Frankly, I'm not much of a goth, myself; I bought something at HOT TOPIC!
