I know. I was thinking of stepping up to the quad-core, considering my spending limit is at around 1300 USD.

I've only ever built my own machine. It's the easiest thing in the world. You can build them fairly cheap now, with parts from Komplett.

The Athlon 64 X2 4600+ is a decent mid-range CPU. It's got a 1Mb L2 cache. It's pretty dear, though. There's the same type with different clock speeds, too, and they get cheaper as you go lower (D'uh). But it's a pretty good piece of kit.

Get XP. Vista's learning curve is entirely too steep and XP tends to be a lot more reliable. Plus, if you're into gaming, XP has the most games. Games are JUST starting to be released for Vista.

What Bleeding Heart said. Plus, Vista runs you, not vice versa. XP Pro with SP2 is really good.

It all looks OK. Will you be making music on it? 'Cuz if you are then a really cool piece of kit to get is a litescribe optical drive. It lets you burn images onto discs, like the names of the band, etc. They're fairly cheap. And is that videocard the Albatron? I've heard that they need a good bit of maintenance, cleaning out pretty often and whatnot. Dust is supposed to be a big issue with them.

Also, try get an ethernet Interweb thingie.

Oh yeah, and don't bother getting a pre-installed OS. I'll up CP Pro with SP2 for nothing for you. It's a virus free version, and it'll save you a little bit.
