Because your Presidents last name is also a slang term for pubic hair?

I've been accused of being a hippie. I've been accused of being a goth, a stoner, and emo. It all depends on the day for me, but I embrace what people call the "hippie" lifestyle more than anything else. It just fits with me, it makes a lot of sense.

The people on that so-called hippie forum don't know what they're talking about.

It truly puzzles me how ignorant people can be, how they can look at someone clearly goth and call them emo.

I know! What the french toast? Poser is a regularly used word, also. I don't know why even parents/grandparents don't do the research before talking.

I don't like french toast..

Luckily, my parents are pretty up on the whole goth scene, my mom was a bit into it back in the day, her friends more so. What really bugs me is that some people can look at someone wearing a HIM shirt and jeans and say "A Goth!" or look at someone in leather and lace and combat boots and say "Emo!". People can be truly stupid.

Because that's important?
It truly puzzles me how people can have no knowledge about something as crucial as which of two tight fitted black jean subcultures I'm a part of.

?

If you're going to talk about ignorance, talk about how most of our clothing, goth or emo or otherwise, is mass produced by people that see less than a fraction one percent of that profit in their hands. THAT, my friend, is truly ignorance. And you cannot tell me you haven't seen goths with more money invested in one single outfit than most of the world can hope to have in a month.

Eh, you can only torture yourself for having more money invested in your outfit than a whole third-world country has to live on for so long.

I've been there and done that, even lived in one of those kinds of countries for a while, and realized that if they -did- have as much as we do here in the States...they would be just as commercial as we are.

Besides that, aren't most Goths poor and DIY-ers?

We'd expect so, but I've seen less DIYers and deathrockers and just plain minimalist goths out there than the oh-so-romantic, vampiric, and victorian ones that spend their money buying lace and velvet and corsets.
Especially in latin america; don't ask me why, because I don't know either.

Heh heh. That's ironic, considering how poor Latin America is supposedly.

I say if that's what folks want to spend their money on, more power to them.

It's not so much powerful as it is sad and just stupid.

Eh, I don't think so; when you don't have much in general, and you find something that makes you happy [even if it's temporarily], it tends to mean more, I think.

I mean, I used to have that attitude too, and only wore over-sized T-shirts and old ratty blue-jeans...but then I realized that when I wore attractive clothing, I felt better about myself, and if I feel better about myself, I'm going to want to work to make myself better in general [education, etc.], and so on and so forth.

Dude, it's not like we're all eating beans and sleep with seven other families. Feeling that it's "more power to them" for people to waste $500 on a dress in Latin America is no different than someone doing that in America.

Well, I don't know if I've fallowing the conversation correctly, but I'm a DIY-er. Mostly because, where I live, THERE IS NO GOTH CLOTHING. So you make it yourself instead. But, I have to agree that spending a $500 on one dress IS over rated, not to mention just plain stupid!

Hey, if you can afford it, I say go for it! [Though if I had $500 to spend on something frivolous, I'm more likely to buy a gaming system than a fancy dress. XD ]

I'm sorry, but you misunderstand me. Where did I say it was the most important thing in the universe? Nowhere. It happens to be a small pet peeve of mine; is it suddenly against the law to discuss that?

I am fully aware of where these clothes come from, and if I know that something I would like to buy comes from unsavory background, I don't buy it. I don't put a lot of money into my clothes - most of them come from thrift shops.
