But there -is- a certain fashion associated with the Goth scene; you have to admit that. [It's part of the reason I love it so much.]
As for $500 for a dress, to me it's only stupid to spend that much if you honestly can't afford it. Say, if you're starving and rent is two weeks overdue, then it would be stupid.
But, if you're fairly well-off and can afford..and are willing...to pay that much [and the dress is worth it], I don't see why not. *shrug*
Though, like I said earlier, I'm more likely to spend that much on a gaming system rather than a dress, but that's just my personal preference.

If you're paying 500 for a dress, then why not see a seamstress and get something unique instead of prefabricated?

If I had 500 dollars... I'd by me some anime movies, and maybe some anime box sets.

1. Because one is ridiculously rich, and can afford to spend $500 on such a frivolous thing.
2. Because the dress is already -exactly- what they are looking for, and they would gladly spend even more than that for it.
3. It's -very- high-quality, which is hard to get these days.
4. You're going to the Grammy's in an hour, you have $500 on your card, and it's the first dress that's fit all day.

No, of course not! O.o I'm a fellow anime fan myself. I think it would be a great investment, actually.
There are quite a few series' out there that I would buy either to watch again, or to watch for the first time..

i don't like spending alot of money of an outfit. that money can be used for something helpful. like a charity or something. but as for me, i'm very cheap. i don't like spending money on needless things. but that is the way the econmy is built. they want us to spend money on needless things.

I don't care where you live, $500 is a lot of money to spend on a dress, even a wedding dress. I remember in High School, all the girls used to brag about how expensive their prom dresses were. Mine was only $27, plus a $1 fake rose I pinned onto it, and I still looked better than all those broads.

Spending $500 is unacceptable to me, no matter what.
The argument that what about people that can afford it is not an argument at all. It only exacerbates my opinion.
Those that have had the luck to have lived on a family that is better off than 95% of the world don't have a right to be frivolous. Is the desired outcome of opulence shallowness and consumerism?

Eh, people spend that much money on other things as well: Gaming systems, TV's, pedigree pets...

Well life would be pretty boring if all we did was just spend money on things that we need
You don't need a birthday party on your birthday, but it's nice to have one. You don't need to go out to clubs and dance, but it's fun to do so. [Feel free to insert any other hobby you find enjoyable, but isn't absolutely essential to your physical survival.]
I think it's kind of fun to think about what I would do with $500, if someone gave it to me and said I had to spend it on something frivolous. ^_^

The real thing you should be asking is to insert any hobby we find enjoyable and isn't absolutely essential to our physical survival, that has to be bought.
Parties are free.
Good gigs are free.
Squatting a place is free.
Trying to make music by hitting different stuff is free.
Going to a movie can be either free or much cheaper than they make it.
Kissing is free.
Playing capture the flag downtown or on an otherwise busy section with a bunch of places to hide a flag and to jump from is free.

Mm, I suppose that's fine if you enjoy things such as that, but I myself also have a love for computer and console games, and even just computers in general. XD
I would love to get a used Mac just so I can learn how to work it as well as I can work a PC.

A-fuckin'men!
Also, even literature is free now over the internet. You can get most classics online.

Perhaps parties and gigs are free to go to...but not free to host. And I usually like to own my favorite books, rather than simply borrow them.
Kissing depends on who you are wanting to kiss, actually.

No...there are certain things that cost $500, no matter what.
Rent--Even the shittiest, nastiest, ganglord/drug dealer/rat and cockroach infested apartment here in Detroit is at least $500 a month to rent out. I want to live somewhere where I don't have to worry about a potential drive-by or have rats in clothing, so I know I'll have to spend more than $600 for a decent place.
Computer--I wanted a computer that will last me for many years, so I opted to pay more than $500 for a good one.
My clarinet--It was $635, and my parents bought it for me when I was 10, because they knew I'd keep up with it my whole life.
While I agree spending $500 on clothing or on a TV or a video game is ridiculous, living decently is not always going to be cheap.

Wealthy people throwing their money away on silly things does the world more good than if they were to stuff it in a sock and never spend it on anything.
Free literature on the internet doesn't really mean a whole lot if you don't own a computer.
Is it shallowness and consumeristic to go around wearing jeans and t-shirts when a simple burlap sack will do the job?
