I loved the video.

I do not consider myself a goth nor a poser. I am neither, just myself. I do have a lot of interest in the gothic culture, but I am still somewhat new to the music.

Belgium is devoid of all things goth. I've only ever met five or six in my 33 years of existence. I guess genetics may not influence if you're a goth, but where you're born does.

Hey, what can you do?

Well, since I'm neither a goth nor a poser, I'll stay in Belgium for now

Was just mentioning it and sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong.

I don't know if I would consider myself Goth really. I listen to allot of darker music, but I don't really dress that way anymore. (allot of it has to do with money, but I really love hippy-ish, Fairy kind of stuff)) but I also listen to stuff like DDR music..and the RENT soundtrack...like 50x a day. I read so much Fantasy it isn't even funny. (I went to the Library a couple days ago, and they had to order me books from a different Library Catalog because I read pretty much everything they have Fantasy wise... well, ALMOST everything, I don't buy into allot of "Gothic literature") ....

But my definition of Goth is someone who understands and appreciates the Gothic Subculture and Listens to Goth Music. They don't do it because it's "cool". They do it because they love it.

lol, I guess I don't fit into my own description. Hmmm... then what Am I doing here at Gothic.net? (kidding)

Hi everyone...I'm new here, but old in life.

I just want to ask a question too. Many here say that being goth would have to do with the music. My question is, what inspired the music? I tend to feel that it comes from within the person. The music is then heard by others that relate to what the artist is trying to convey. It "rings a bell" so to speak with the listener.

I don't know much about the Goth subculture, but it seems that I have been goth for much of my 45 years without even knowing it. The music may have been a way for people that feel the same to come together and form a group where people can relate with each other.

I would have to agree that it comes from within the person and what they relate to. If they relate to the music, then the music had to have been inspired by a person that had similar feelings to begin with.

Nice to meet everyone!

I apologize...I didn't realize this thread was so old. I was searching the internet to find out what "spookykids" were and it popped me right to page 4 of this thread.

i think a goth is someone who listens to and enjoys goth music, doesn't conform to societys perverted idea of normal, enjoys deep things like art, poetry, and new ideas. likes black clothes.

tell me if im on the right track please.

poser: mall kids who listen to marilyn manson and dress only from hot topic and act super fake depressed and like 'I'm dying, I'm dying.'

goth: someone who appreciates the music, sees the beauty and interest in darker things, and uses their mind to see the world and people in a different and more intelligent way.

I agree with everything Vehemently had to say. I have come to see gothic as something of a spiritual essence which some people have inside them and cannot abscond.

I used to hate being called goth, but it was essentially who I was, and I accidentally stumbled into the scene. This is the case with any goth I've spoken to. As far as posers are concerned, they usually go through a phase and drop out of it. Goths will always be goth, whether they use a different name or not.

Drag up a real old thread with zero replies, and post something that has nothing to do with it.

My boyfriend is a "sometimes emo" and it's sort of cute. But being mistaken for an emo when I'm with him . . . that sucks.
