And as for this topic--I agree with him. It's funny how the people saying "so start an interesting thread" are obviously quite happy with the way things are going, and are in fact much of the reason why this forum sucks. There ARE interesting threads, but they are rarely posted in, because everyone here just loves nonsense so much.

Yeah. I also think that the nonsense is what draws us together. It's just like a huge group of friends hanging out. I mean, when you hang with friends, I highly doubt that all your conversations are meaningful. There's always that silliness and randomness, as well as the time for serious conversations.
Meaningless chatter brings people together.

I don't know about you, but if I had a group of friends that was CONSTANT nonsense, like this place here, I'd drop them immediately. You'll notice I rarely talk to those in this group who are here just to be idiots.
What's more, if you actually believe "meaningless chatter brings people together," you're a bit pathetic.
Truth is--it does bring people together. It brings together the kind of person who plays beer pong instead of going to a play. Or the kind of person who would rather watch TV than talk, or the kind of person who is careless and sloppy with relationships and interactions.
Sorry, those are not my people.

My point wasn't that idiotic nonsense is good all the time, but that one can't always expect to have a serious conversation. Stupidity is bound to happen no matter who you are, even if you try to have an intelligent conversation, someone is bound to at least once, say something of little use.
And what I meant by it bringing people together was that it's often how people loosen up when new to a group, meet someone for the first time, are uncomfortable, etc. "meaningless chatter" doesn't have to be the idiotic talk of someone who, as you said, "plays beer pong", but can be any of that small talk that we all have in our lives.
These topics may not have very much meaning or intellect (if any at all), but they do help people relax after a stressful day at work, uncomfort with being on a new site, or anything else you can think of. That's why there are ALSO other forums like Politics, Liturature, etc. And believe me, I can't stand having only constant banter. That's partly why I have so few posts. I'll put in my two-cents here and there, but very rarely will I constantly speak about something that is totally useless; and even then it's only because I'm biding time while I re-edit something I really want to say to make sure it's coherant before I type it.

We're going to have to agree to disagree. The way I feel about this is very different from the way you feel, and even if we understand each other, we will probably never reach agreement.

Yeah. We probably would agree at some point, but only because I hate arguing so I'd give in after a while.

Who'd win in a fight, Cameron Diaz in her prime, or Catherine Zeta Jones in her prime?

Neither. Mr T would walk in after the carnage and he's be the coolest thing in the room.

There is no 'ctrl' button on Chuck Norris's computer. Chuck Norris is always in control.

In the beginning there was nothing...then Chuck Norris Roundhouse kicked that nothing in the face and said "Get a job". That is the story of the universe.

Chuck Norris invented a language that incorporates karate and roundhouse kicks. So next time Chuck Norris is kicking your ass, don’t be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.

Chuck Norris once lost a testicle in his fight against Cthulhu. We now call it "the Moon."

A Handicapped parking sign does not signify that this spot is for handicapped people. It is actually in fact a warning, that the spot belongs to Chuck Norris and that you will be handicapped if you park there.

Chuck Norris sold his soul to the Devil for his rugged good looks and unparralelled martial arts abilities. Upon completion of the transaction, Chuck round-house kicked the Devil in the face, taking back his soul. The Devil, who appreciates irony, said he couldn't be mad, and admitted that he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every third Tuesday of the month.

I love these Norris jokes... oh, what was that one?... Chuck Norris does not go hunting, no, that implies that he may fail, Chuck Norris goes killing.

For me to use the word "snob" would imply a deep seeded desire to actually be around you. So instead of doing that, I can safely say that I feel more dynamic as a person, knowing that I can roll with the likes of you and those other people who would rather play beer pong instead of see a play.

Chuck Norris's worst enemy is Jimmy Hoffa. Notice how Jimmy Hoffa vanished under mysterious circumstances.

Maybe the circumstances are not so mysterious. Could it be that Chuck Norris lured Jimmy Hoffa into a game of bumper billiards, only upon winning did Jummy Hoffa discover that he lost, when Chuck Norris hit him on the back of the head. Later on Jimmy Hoffa revived on a cargo ship destination, a Korean Slave Camp.
