The official health thread.
Since this forum doesn't have a Health subforum, I decided to post this thread. Basically just a place to post information having to do with health, little facts like "Most of the fat/calories in an egg is in the yok". Little pieces of information one could use to his advantage when dieting, or anything else to do with health...
Play nice...

Er...
One apple gives you more energy than five cups of coffee.
Meat is the number one cause of heart disease.

It takes more calories to eat and digest celery than the celery has in the first place.

Heard on news the big mumps outbreak last year was caused by paranoid europeans not getting vaccinations because they cause autism(supposedly). I saw this when I was overseas. It's absolutely ridiculous you'd let a kid suffer a horrible childhood illness. All because you're paranoid about you're kid getting autism. Apparently we need to go back to having 10 kids so that 2 will eventually survive the deadly number of diseases kids can catch, just like the middle ages. God peoples ignorance drives me mad!!!

Apple = Sugars & Carbs = Energy
Coffee = Caffiene = Stimulant = Workyoulittlebastardcells = "Pep" (for lack of a better term)
So they both keep you moving, but one does so becuase it's fuel and the other does so because it's like one of those big guys with whips that you see in slave-boat movie scenes. It's like comparing Apples and Ora-... well, I guess it's more like Apples and Coffee, but you get my point.
Other random (and likely useless) tidbits from what is probably the only pre-med graduate on the board (better stop fondleing my twisted ego now):
Muscle weighs roughly three times as fat, per volume. This is why health professionals use that "Body Mass Index" instead of a simple scale, and why it's likely that no amount of weight lifting will cause you to actually weigh less. Although if you've converted that cubic foot of belly-fat into biceps and arn't noticing it due to your scale still reading 210, the perhaps you have more than your weight to worry about.
The carotid artery in your neck actually has a kind of valve which works like a kind of circular intersection to route blood to either side of the neck. While this won't save you from bleeding out (in just a handful of seconds, at that), it does prevent catastrophic failure of intengible elemental life forces (ie. death) in the case of blockage in one or the other.
Kissing is a racial hold-over from the times when human babies needed an adult to chew food and then spit it into thier mouthes, much like a bird. In the same way that sex is really pleasureable (otherwise it would be hard for a creature to [a] figure it out [b] feel like doing it enough to populate a species), kissing in an activity that is relatively pleasurable (relative to sex, that is) so as to con our hairy-ape ancestors into spitting away that tuber they spent 3 hours foraging around the bus-sized-lion-filled savannah.
When the human body is deprived of food (most commonly found today in eating disorders [when in 1st world capitalist societies that can afford to keep around thier neurotic members] or simple starvation [in the rest of the world]) it first turns to the fat stores making up the typical american cottage-cheese behind. Once all of that is gone, it turns to cannabalizing it's own muscle tissue from throughout the body. This tissue loss is irreverable, though is most of the body the atrphy can be corrected by strengthening the rest of the body. However it is possible to cause enough damage to the heart muscles in this manner so as to make certain a premature death due to cardiac failure.
That's all of the interesting ones that I can pull off of the top of my head.

Having eaten many apples, and drunk many cups of coffee, I question the whole energy comparison thing. The apple may do better things for your metabolism, but I'm pretty sure I get more useable, feel-able (for lack of a better word) energy from the coffee. An apple in the morning doesn't wake me up. I've tried.

The whole "vaccines causing autism" is VERY real.. just look at all the shit they put in the vaccines! Ethylene glycol (antifreeze), phenol (carbolic acid), formaldehyde, aluminum (directly linked to Alzheimer's), mercury.. SO much better than the mumps, right?
Vaccines are created to MAKE MONEY for pharmaceutical companies.

Because we all know drinking a vaccine is the same as getting it injected.

Well, technically vaccines are created to stop humanity from dieing off due to one of several diseases that have come damned close in the past. Regardless, the compositon of many vaccines do indeed contribute to autisim in children. It's a tough call, but that's because neither one is a good option; which would you rather be, paralyzed (polio) or unable to comprehend enough math to make change?

Yes, but polio complications are very rare, it's spread by oral-fecal contact, and treatment is available. I'd personally rather take my chances with the polio, seeing as how I won't be raising my children in a place with contaminated water.

Polio complications rare? Do you mean complications with the vaccine? If so, it's not the worry of getting polio from the vaccine but the fact that the chemicals in it can neuter a developing brain.
When it comes to a lot of vaccines, I'd rather take my chances in a safe county. Then again, I'm not in control of the people that keep samples of it alive just to weaponize it.

Concerning apples, eat the peel ( wash it well first if it isn't organic) because, as with most fruits and vegetables, a great proprtion of the nutrients are contained here. On the other foot, don't eat apple seeds, as they naturally contain traces of cyanide.

Yeh there is a chemical in the seeds that causes hydrogen cyanide to form during digestion. Its not dangerous unless you eat a huge amount of seeds though!

This is probably why no one wants to listen to you.
Unless, of course, you innocently typed "pounds" instead of "calories." Which you did, and I'm just being an asshole.

About the whole vaccine thing, it is a binding agent that allows someone to be vaccinated against multiple diseases in one shot that has been shown to correlate with an increased chance for developing autism, there has been absolutely no data that points to being vaccinated one disease at a time as leading to autism, we just did finished a fairly extensive section on autism in my developmental psych class so if you were wondering the source of that info is my text book (freaking $93 book better be reliable)

My work lunch is always pasta. I love pasta. I work a 12 hour shift working from 7am to 7pm. I have lunch at 12. That keeps me going all the way till home time.
Pasta ftw.
p.s Its not always just that, I have something small like a roll at 9am most times.
But still that keeps me going + about 3 diet cokes.
I weigh 10.5 to 11 stone.
Working for 48hours over 4 days really helps my weight balance
