Yeah, Moloch. Kontan was acting a bit too confrontational and aggressive- had you left your reply at "hey dude, chill, we settled it", you'd have emerged the bigger man, and he the jerk looking for a fight. Asking him, in an excessively crude tone, to source a statement whose veracity you could easily have confirmed yourself by looking up "goth" on google or wikipedia, creates the impression that you're not only an asshole, but a willfully uninformed one.

Ok so um what are you trying to prove here?
That you are "more goth" then the rest of us.

Hmm. I'm with Kon here.

I've read the wiki article, it's cute, but I've gotten into the habbit of taking nothing wiki says as fact. For example;

"By the late 1470s, there were a few post-punk bands in the United Kingdom labeled "gothic." However, it was not until the early 1920s that gothic rock became its own subgenre within post-punk, and that followers of these bands started to come together as a distinctly recognizable movement. The scene appears to have taken its name from an article published in UK rock weekly Sounds: ‘The face of Punk Gothique’, written by Steve Keaton and published on February 21 1921. The opening of the Batcave in London's Soho in July 1922 provided a prominent meeting point for the emerging scene, which had briefly been labeled positive punk by the New Musical Express.[3] The term "Batcaver" was later used to describe old-school goths."

Directly taken from the wiki. Yes, I edited it, but that's not the point. I'm talking real, tangible sources, because anyone can drop any amount of bullshit in a wiki article. Accepting what wiki says as absolute is tantamount stupidity. As for taking the high road, yeah, I could have done that, but the reality is I'm just as much a tool as he is, and we're having an internet fight. Move out of the way, Gothicus. It's time for some serious business.

I don't see anyone telling you to use wikipedia as a source. All they said is bands. Maybe you should try and find a source that says these bands didn't come out at that certain time.
Though I have a feeling your a troll now.

Sorry, I just thought we were having a casual discussion on the internet, not compiling the bibliography for a research paper. Wikipedia is usually sourced- the article contains links to the sites from which its information is derived.

Anyway, here's a cool site I found by typing goth into a search engine. That's about 7 keystrokes.

What is with Moloch? With only 10 odd posts under the belt, he's already annoying.

I bet he uses the term "Normals" or "Mundanes" as though matching his blacks makes him better than everyone else.

Well then take this as fact. Siousxie and The Banshees, Bauhaus, The Damned, Specimen. THEY have pretty much been the ones you could blame for all that oh so loving goth shit you find to be synonymous with "becoming greater than you are". Look up their discographies if you want to debate dates and when "goth" as everyone knows it, started. Hell, look up Christian Death as well. They started in 79, but apparently, The Damned started in 77.

True, I shouldn't be so aggressive with you and for that, I somewhat call myself on it at least. MAYBE if the tone and inflections of your attitude in your post didn't radiate pretentious, elitist, and UNINFORMED asshole, I could have sugar coated it a bit for you.

Seriously, look at your intro thread. Not in the LEAST bit friendly. It's like going anywhere else, full of people you don't know, and trying to act short and dismissive with a hint of badass. It's fucking lame.

The very fact that you couldn't even let it slide that I pointed out your error in the use of week and weak implies to me that you're egotistical as hell.

I'm REALLY not this pissy. I'm by far the nicest guy here as far as I can tell. I will say that I may have overdone the aggression a bit though. You can blame it on the HOARDS of posters that's come and gone here that was very much like you.

I'm willing to let it go. Besides, it's just a musical genre, right? I mean, I can like you on much more meaningful merits I think. From one Thelemite to the other, welcome to the boards.

Actually the answer to the question is very simple. Why are you afraid of rapers, punks, hippies or preppies?

Fact is people divide into groups usually for protection, so you're always going to be careful approaching another group because they're different. Past experience, there was hostility from someone. Though you're meeting someone new and different, still reminded of the person that was hateful.

Can't ever say that I have had the impression anyone was ever scared of me, not 20 years ago and certainly not now. Maybe interested or confused but not scared.

If someone is scared of me, it's most definitely NOT because of the Goth thing. XD

You people are all so angry and easily upset...Why? -_- Not going to name anyone but Kontan went on a huge pissy rant of already said things.

As to why people are afraid of goths? It's because we're different, we don't look normal most of the time...etc. You see someone walking down the street with a knife clenched in his fist, you're probably going to be scared or intimidated because a lot of people don't see that, and nothing becoming of it. :/ One of the small fun fear of curiousities in life. ^^

No one here is angry. I'm not even really angry. I guess I just don't like "goths" and have become overly dismissive about their claims to just about anything having to do with them being special in some way.

I'll admit, I have been somewhat trollish lately.

People are not afraid of " Gawths " They just laugh at those retards wearing 1000$ cost clothes and looking like clowns, so yeah.

While a bit tuned down goths, which i consider the real ones sound nice and seem to be social without any problems.

A (east Asian) woman at my work once asked me if goths are weird people (she made it out like goths were ppl you should be afraid of) I told her that goths are not bad people and are actually really intelligent and polite, they just dress different. That's all.
She now has a peace of mind about goths now.
Yay! ^_~

Uh...there's a big difference between seeing someone walking down the street with a knife in their hand as opposed to someone wearing boots and fishnets.

Hugs and delivers cookies on a silver platter. Why are we so concerned with people's fear of "us" when what they really fear is what they do not immediately comprehend? Sure, if I see a group of football players walking towards me, I'd be more scared than if I saw a group of Goths. But that's because I understand Goths, but most footballers are a mystery to me. And, as a society, we put way to much importance on appearance, but I shall save you that rant.
