Oh, the corsets!

I wish I'd known they looked so good on me 10 years ago. I'm trying to amass a basic collection of underbust as well as thin-strapped corsets in white, black, and brown - especially black, brown, or tan leather. I have a couple of decorative black ones with ribbons; those have won over even my goth-shy hubby.

Anyway, I'm considering this one: CLICKY The fact that it's a bit different than most corsets is what caught my attention, but I'm also worried that for the same reason it won't be flattering on me. I have a 35-inch waist. I would wear it over a white or cream peasant top.

But since I'm trying to lose weight, maybe I should wait until I can buy one in a smaller size?

I say wear something that you find comfortable, and get people's opinions. I mean if you don't like it, I guess you can sell it again.

I drooled over it for a good five minutes. Wish I could try it on. I also wish there were some places in town that sell real corsets, but we're a hick town. You're right, I can definitely re-list it if it doesn't look good on me. It's a pretty good price, too.

Don't do that. You're more likely to be motivated to lose weight if you feel good, and looking good and dressing snappy helps you feel good.
Besides, what if you just don't lose the weight?

Also, I'd like to point out that what you're interested in isn't a corset--it's actually called a bustier.

Wow, it's beautiful. It seems tight though, or atleast tight enough to unflatter unwanted flab... If you are somewhat overweight with a flabby tummy, this item would look absolutely ridiculous on you.. a belly button top like that, with something underneath or without.

I say buy it, try it on and decide whether it looks good on you or not. if it doesn't, start scheduling your daily routine now!

im a so jealouse of u,the only corset i have is one i made myself and that took me fucking 6 months to do

on the size issue it realy depends how commited u are to getting to the weight u wanna be and sticking to it,if u think u can keep the weight off go and buy the smaller version.if not i may be a good idea to buy one in the size u are now

Good point. I'm actually losing though, just really slowly, so this will at least fit me for a few months, and I do feel a lot better about myself when I'm not wearing just jeans and a t-shirt.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't too sure what it was.

That's what I was thinking too. The corsets I have go from the bust down to my hips and make me look thinner, but I wasn't sure about this, because it wouldn't cover my stomach. I'd still have a shirt on underneath, but it might poof out anyway.

You've made a corset?! I'm the jealous one, regardless of how long it took you. I can sew, but I have nowhere near the skill to make a corset. Pictures, please!

I've been really committed to losing the flab around my middle, watching what I eat and playing DDR until I drop. It's working, but it's going slow. I think the size I'm considering would fit even after I've lost weight because I'm big-busted. I can't see myself losing too much up there. *sigh*

Okay, I'm going to buy it! It'll be my Mother's Day present to myself. LOL If it looks good, I'll post a picture! If not, no amount of threatening me with pointy objects will convince me to even take a picture. Hee hee

I love cosets, yet I don't own one. I'm in hick town too so I know how you feel, it really sucks that one can not go out to a store and try on a good sturdy corset. Blarg.

And here I thought I owned Blarg, great minds think alike. I got the two corsets I have at Hot Topic. Heh. But I freaking love them. If I can't find any at thrift stores (doubtful), I'm just getting the rest of mine online, but only at sites which clearly list measurements and have return policies.

Check this out, though. My daughter wants this one: CLICKY It's from a Halloween shop, but it looks pretty sturdy. And I might just have to steal - ahem - borrow it from her sometime!

Anyone know of a good place to get a well made, steel boned corset for under $250? I have seen bunches of places online that seem nice but as it is a fairly large sum of money I would appreciate getting pointed in the right direction

Aw man...I just got the bustier today. It's gorgeous, but much too big. It seems like I lost a little weight--not a lot, but enough to make a difference with this item. I'm going to exchange it, which means I have to wait longer. Argh! I put it on, and had my husband pull the back tight so I could see what it looked like when properly fitted. Wow! LOVE IT!!!

Hmm...If you can't get it taken in, why not give it away to a thrift store/clothes swap because in spite of it not being a corset, someone might still be happy to have that.

Well, I emailed the girl I got it from, and she says I can send it back and she'll send me the proper size. I have a ton of beautiful, good-as-new dresses and tops that I'm giving to charity this week. But I'm not letting go of my leather bustier just yet.
