Why Diss Zelda?
This is something that has been bothering me something for quite a while now... People tend to 'Make Fun' of the Legend Of Zelda, I cannot understand why people must interfiere with others lives because of their interests. But the whole "It is crap" thing just does not make sense and when questioned as to why this is, I often recieve the answer of, "It just is." So i'm going to list a few reasons why it is a good set of games.
"This is the whining forum, I may do as I please. I am entitled to my own oppinion."
Functionality: Zelda was the very first top down adventure game ever created. It was also the first game EVER to feature memory saving functions, using a small chip added in the game, hense the Gold cartridge, you could say, that without Zelda we would be a deacade behind in gaming even today.
Gameplay: The controlls are smooth, the physics are great, the fule you recieve from striking that final blow to that larger than life boss is unbelievable. A wide variety of weapons and items fused with puzzles and awesome combat to boot, tel me that's not awesome.
Soundtrack: The soundtrack within the Legend Of Zelda was composed by world famous japanese musician 'Kojo Kondo'. He alone composed the title screen arrangements for the original legend of zelda in only one day, that song was later dubbed 'Fairy Fountain', which would be featured in every Zelda game ever created. The soundtrack strikes pure adrenaline into you and gives the feeling of heroism, without it, Zelda would be nothing! How can you truly deny this as pure beauty! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6KDg...eature=related
Characters: There have been over a dozen Zelda games and each one features a main character named 'Link', it is obvious that not everyone is the same, but the most influencial of the group is by far Link, featured in Ocarina Of Time, a young boy abandoned as a baby, raised in a small forest located on the outskirts of Hyrule, only to discover his true destiny as the hero of time and set out on the biggest adventure ever told. He would later quest to Termina, a parrelel dimension and using his time travelling abilities, use time shifts to warp from place to place, to prevent the moon from striking the earth. Many other characters are featured in these games, all happen to play some role in game, if it is not a mini game/quest, an item you/they wishes to buy, or even teachig you a melody upon your Ocarina, their all there.
Enemies: One man, Ganondorf. It is written, that once every hundred years, one male is born from the Gerudo tribe, he would be known as 'Ganondorf', a dark sorcerer, whos black magic managed to turn Hyrule into a destructive wasteland of pure darkness. After his defeat in Ocarina of time, he travelled to the pyramids of a far away land, to claim the trident of power, which would incidently transform him into what would be known as 'Ganon', a giant evil pig. Years ago the soul of a mighty hog like general was sealed inside the trident during a great battle, when Ganondorf touched the trident he inhabited the body of the pig.
Races: Not many games have managed to pull off the idea of races in games, in Zelda, there are many races, some of which are:
Zoras: Swimming, steathy fish-like humans, using their swimming powers they can swim up to great speeds.
Deku: Small creatures made of wood, located in forests, using their large rounded jaws they can shoot nuts/bubbles at foes.
Gorons: Large fierce yet friendly beats, a peaceful race created of rock, when curled they can create a rolling motion for travelling, cannot swim.
Gerudos: A race of women only, they reside in the desert, each skilled in the art of swodsmanship.
Meh, I wrote that all from memory so sorry if any of it is wrong. That is my personal opinion and I shall stick with it, thanks for reading and that is all.

Fucking liar.
Return of Heracles had the top down effect in 1982.

You could save information to a computer since 1970. RAM had existed since the early 80s.

Wide variety?
The legend of Zelda has 4 or 5 primary weapons (Sword, bow, bombs, slingshot), etc.
That's incredibly small.
I'd go on, but the rest is just opinionated BS.
The Legend of Zelda is a good game, but it's not revolutionary.

Ocarina of Time was one of the best games ever.
All other games are clones of each other.
Same weapons. Same characters. Same bosses. Even same dungeons many times.
I like the games of Zelda, but it isn't hard to see why some people don't.

Who really cares if someone else doesn't like Zelda, or if they make fun of it? I love Star Trek, and there are plenty of people who make fun of it, but I don't get bothered by it. Hell, sometimes I join in. But I get much amusement by, for example, when people say stuff like, "Oh, look at the guy going to a Star Trek convention, what a nerd, he dressed like a Klingon!" but then they go to a game wearing some completely ridiculous body paint and outfits in their favorite team's colors.
Just get over it. Some people like Zelda. Some don't. Some like Zelda but don't mind making fun of it. (Teen pregnant? Falcon punch!)

I share the feelings of the original poster. If someone has an urge to insult the Zelda series, I'll ask them to kindly make unkind remarks about something less dear to me, like my deepest hopes and wishes, my star-betrothed lover, or the fate of my immortal soul.
