Everyone's limit is different. No-one is saying we should all live like monks - just that there are more important things in life than keeping up with purchases that companies tell us we need.
Also, sure - you can't get online books without a computer. But you can still go to your public library.

I like owning my books, personally. That way, if something happens to them [say, I spill some cola on Page 54], I don't feel guilty about it. ^_^
Plus, if I own a book, I can go back and read it any time I want to.
While I'm all about saving your money, I think that one -can- get a little ridiculous with it; the world will not end if someone gives you $500 and says "Here, go buy something frivolous with this." It may even expose you to a whole new, fun experience. [I already have a storyline brewing in my mind of how buying a $500 dress could lead to true love and the life a once-poor girl never thought possible..]

Agreed, I was recently re-approved for financial compensation from the Veterans' Administration and I was approved for the time period of this entire semester (monthly payments from mid Jan to mid May) but the paperwork didn't go through until early February so when I got my payment for January I decided to use it for fun since all of my living expenses had already been paid and took Jake out for a nice dinner and got some lovely jade beads to make a necklace and matching bracelet (I used to be really into beading but for the past few years I haven't really had the time or extra money)

Oh, I do too. I'm just sayin' that having no money won't stop you from reading if you're determined, and literature is something which can, technically, be counted as one of the free things in life.

Heh heh. Good point. XD
When I was in high school, the library was my sanctuary. It was more holy to me than a church! [And that's saying a LOT for me at that time..]

It was mine, too!! I even gave up having study hall so I could work in the library during that time. The smell of old books is like paradise to me.

Oh GOD, I love the smell of old books!! I haven't smelt it in a while...one of the great disadvantages to getting your literature online.

That thread over there made me feel sick, I don't think I've seen so many stupid people argumenting in vain and without a real cause about something they don't understand at all. The only thing I'm sorry of, is that this kind of people seem to increase everyday. But...fuck them! :]

I am 18, but I graduated early. I have noticed more and more people trying to dress in all the jusk Hot Topic sells, but that's a fad. I've never thought a gothic person has to wear all black , chains and spikes.
most of the actual "goths" I've met, were intellectual beings, with or without the black lipstick.

You are absolutely right.
Wherever people got the idea that your 'label' is a fashion statement I will never know. Whether you are Goth, Emo, or whatever it's nothing but a state of mind.
Personally I prefer not to listen to people who are too quick to judge or who tend to label people because of what he/she wears or present themselves.
I dig deep beneath the surface and consider people's individual feelings before I even think about what 'kind' of person they are. =/

Goth isn't a state of mind. A state of mind, is a state of mind.

No, you don't. If you seriously tell me that you look at every single person completely unbiasedly until you feel you've conversed with them to a point where you can analyse their personality, you're lying to a ridiculous level.

I think Godslayer quoted Oscar Wilde (or maybe Jillian was the original author) that said something about not judging someone based on appearance was wrong...or something...crap. Help me out here Jillian, I can't freakin' remember!

I'm still in high school, and graduate next year.
Still, it can be a bitch when you're the only one among your friends wearing an Alien Sex Fiend shirt.

I was a goth in high school. Sometimes I still listen to The Sisters and shit, but I got kinda tired of it and moved on to awesome indie rock. I also don't wear much black anymore, I kinda went to the complete opposite end of the spectrum (I get called a "walking crayon box").

I remember that, but I don't remember it.

Eh, I get "if rainbows had legs and personalities, you'd be one."
I listen to a lot of goth rock and death rock, but I wouldn't consider myself a goth, since I'm not a die-hard fan or anything.

I LOVE really crazy colors right now, in a sense that I'm thinking about getting various colors of paint and splashing it all over a black tee shirt and adding a batcave logo to it. Should be sweet.

You know, if you could get some sort of masking fluid so you could get the "cutout" effect (black fabric showing through paint that reveals said logo) it'd be pretty sweet. At least, I think it'd be neat looking and--you'd have the added benefit of not having to do too much extra to a paint-splattered shirt.

Hah, pretty much.
I don't really think anyone was "born goth," either.
It's just what influences you to be who you are.

There's batik-painting style, but that's using wax and dye. Maybe try melting wax and paint over it as a test method before you start working on your actual piece? Look up the method if you're curious--I can't post links yet.
Masking fluid you can get from any art supply store. It's usually in the watercolor section--ask if it can be used on fabric or not, because I'm not sure. Maybe talk to one of the clerks? I know acrylic can be painted in layers and that MUST be used with some sort of masking agent -- on canvas, a fabric no less (however canvas is usually gessoed, so I think my point is moot).
If you buy masking fluid, it's good to get it rinsed before it dries, otherwise you may have just ruined your brush.
