a pointless piece of info from mortalitas........
apparently anne rice prefered stuart townsend as lestat, yet the general public and the critics prefered brad pitt.

well does it have to be an american movie? I mean one of the best films i've recently seen was a japanese movie called BATTLE ROYALE. Not sure if anyone else has seen it, but it was tons of fun....i doubt that it will ever have a remake made of that movie here in the US like the ring and the ring 2, but it'd be kool. I mean who wouldn't want to be stranded on an island and forced to kill all their friends from skool, lol. But seriously, it was a great movie directed by Kinji Fukasaku who if i'm not mistaken was the guy who taught/influenced Quentin Tarantino. If no ones seen this, its a must, but stay away from the sequel!!!!!!!!

Flame Tstone for liking "Dune"? Not really, especially since I actually enjoyed the Lynch version. However, I was always curious as to how it would have turned out if any of the other premutations of the project ever came to fruition (it was originally supposed to have been made by Alejandro Jodorowsky, the egomaniacal hack behind "El Topo" and "The Holy Mountain", and was killed off when Salvador Dali wanted something like $20 million for every 15 minutes he was on the set.....then it was supposed to have been made by Ridley Scott back when he was still a good director, but he opted out to make this little film called "Blade Runner"....Scorcese was also curious about the project, but, just like his version of "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?", it never got past the 'talks" stage)
Demon Eyes-"Battle Royale" is a kind of threshold test for newbies around here. As far as a remake is concerned, won't get made, but not because of the violence or anything, but because the distributors want a whole shitload of money. This is also the reason why it has yet to get an American release.

Loy I was of the impression that it wasn't considered for re-release here because of Columbine and the zealots and angry clueless soccer moms might blame it for all the troubles in school today.

Al-I thought that at first as well, but when it premiered at SIFF (one of 3 North American showings, if I remember correctly) a few years back (and yes, it was this screening that Tarantino saw, and decided to steal the character for "Kill Bill"...the script for "Bill" didn't have the bodyguard originally), I spoke with somebody really close with the project who gave me the lowdown (and it wasn't in some kind of "hush hush" kind of way....the fact that they've asked for an unprecedented amount of money for distro rights is fairly well known by now).
I think, however, they'd like people to assume that it's retarded soccer mom/moralist republican types keeping it out of American soil (thus creating a market for the importation of the DVD's, thus creating the need for more Americans to buy region-free DVD players, or even follow Australia's suit, and try to get rid of region codes worldwide.....it also assures that the original team of film-makers/producers/etc got paid for their work, since in distribution deals on American soil is concerned, foreign films get fucked hardcore and the American distributors get most of the cash). The films rep hasn't exactly been hurt by this all. (As the fact that it's an awesome fucking film)

I watched Battle Royale early this year -- downloaded it illegally, of course. The end was kind of confusing to me but I won't say anything about it as it would most likely be a spoiler.
I'm still doing the pee-pee dance in anticipation of seeing Haute Tension. Is there an American release of that? I've been bugging my dad about getting a new region-free DVD player since our old one has gone to shit anyway, so if not I'll probably just buy an import.
Heh, I went to see The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in the theater with my mom and sister. I actually ended up enjoying it; it was still a chick flick but to much less of an extent than I expected. Meaning, it wasn't entirely about stupid and trite shit or lovey dovey romance.

Threshold test, as in "if you can handle this, you're part of the group" test
So I just watched a whole bunch of films by Werner Herzog (he's in Seattle showing them), and it just reminds me of something I once wrote-if you've never seen a Herzog film, you don't know shit about kovies, and there's no need pretending otherwise. Seeing his newer films, I stand by that statement even more so
"Lessons In Darkness"-Herzog's documentary about the after-effects of Gulf Wars, Episode 1. Haunting and unforgettable.
"Wheel Of Time"-a documentary about the Kalcharka Initiation celebrations. Who knew the Dalai Llama was one seriously funny motherfucker? And who would've ever imagined Herzog and the Llama cracking jokes about the center of the universe?
"The White Diamond"-Would you fly a zeppelin over the heart of Guyana? Dr. Graham Dorrington does. Not as enthralling as Herzogs other works, but then again, Dorrington's a bit more normal that Herzog's other subjects tend to be.
"The Wide Blue Yonder"-nobody but Herzog could have pulled this off....an od combination of sci-fi film, nature documentary, philosophical pondering, and NASA films, an alien "Brad Dourf" talks with a group of earthmen about his home planet....."Wide Blue Yonder" stands as one of Herzog's greatest acheivements.
And he's still filming "Rescue Dawn", a film based of the story of Dieter Dengler, whom Herzog had made the wonderful documentary "Little Dieter Needs To Fly" about. See "Little Dieter", then wonder how Christian Bale is going to play the part.
Or hell, just see ANY Herzog....NOW!

The Brothers Grimm. But I didnt see the ending cause I had to leave 30 mins before it finished. If you've seen the ending, is it worth watching again to see it?

Van Helsing.
Thought I'd give it another try.
Oh well.....
But I still want Richard Roxburgh's coat and Kate Beckinsale's corset.

I remember seeing this film, it was very good, made me think how humanity goes to such disturbing extremes as well as how quickly we turn a blind eye to our ignorant, short-sighted actions. I also liked how Herzog presented the bizarre image of endless fires and endless lakes of oil, it was simply amazing.
Sadly I haven't seen the other films...but if you say they're just as good then i'm up for watching them.
