Originals of the goth style of dressing.

Well, A few of my friends arrange a Goth-****** meeting, and I was chosen to lecture about the originals of the gothic fashion and its different styles.
I would be really glad if someone could post here links to good sources of information about the subject.
I am terribly sorry if there already is a message about the subject, for I could not find it.

Thank you.

I don't see how gothic fashion is actually relevant to the subject matter.

Well, are you speaking on tradgoth - as in the early fashion of the subculture - or victorian fashion, which has been around for a (helluva) lot longer?

Please let it be the trad goth.
I hope someone will elaborate on this later, but basically it's this:

First there was the punk movement. Vivienne Westwood made The Sex Pistol's clothing. Siouxsie Sioux was part of the Bromley Contingent, so she was a follower of the Pistols, and she also bought some Vivienne Westwood's originals. When she formed her band, she used to sport her fetish and bondage outfits, and that married the goth look to the S&M look.
Over here in America, Rozz Williams was a crossdresser, and in the UK Specimen was heavily influenced by glam, so there was no surprised there was a 'feminization' of the male look.
Then, let's see... oh, yeah, well, Ian Astbury had a necklace made of chicken bones. Or was it Andi Sex Gang? I'm pretty sure it was Ian, but either way that's cool and I'm actually thinking of making one.

I don't know how to make that a story, but there's that already for you to know.
As for the Gothic ****** style, it doens't really relate to Goth.

Both.
Just a general explanation, if you may help me with this.
Though I'm really intersted in this subject.

The gothic-lol-ita is inspired by the victorian fashion(and all that classic beautiful outfit), snd I guess that "goth-lol-ita" sounds better than just "dark-lol-ita", for the only difference between the gothic and non-gothic lol-ita is often the colore of the outfit or make up, and the accessories.
Thank you for the explanation, I will find more information about this subject.

And did victorian fashion just appeared in the goth fashion suddenly?

Besides, it's more like an unusual-way-of-clothing picnic.
In the middle of the horrible Israelian summer.

My understanding was that there was a group of people in Europe during the goth and post-punk movement known as new-romantics. Their aesthetic was assimilated into the goth fashion.

Just a little tidbit on what I've come to find out.

Beats me. I do know that Dave Vanian, from The Damned, used to dress up like the standard Victorian vampire for a phase.
It must have been from there, because besides that, I really can't think why Goth was linked to Victorian fashion. It sure as hell contradicted the DIY spirit.

Yeah, sounds way too structured and contrived.

A meeting. On what? Aren't you already repressed by laws enough? Or do you have to have a meeting to discuss how to adhere to some kind of uniformity in your individuality?

Usually these loli meetups revolve around tea, gardens and such, getting together to talk about their clothes and share (typically ubergirly/loli) interests while the camera endlessly snaps pictures of them for them to put up online.

I apologize for sounding stereotypical but that's usually what I gather from seeing them on the LJ communities.

GJ and anyone else who cares: As for Victorian fashion running roughshod over the trad goth styles, influence from the Hammer Horror flicks, Anne Rice novels, and especially the mourning rituals that made the era so notorious creeped in after the first wave of the music died down and redefined the look just like the second wave-Okay, SoM-redefined the sound.

But I DO wish they had picked other eras because regarding period fashion in the scene, I see virtually nothing BUT aristocratic/upper crust Victorian. Why doesn't anyone want to dress like a revolutionary/adventurer/a proud dreg of society/a ghoul? Not to mention that with my race, I don't exactly have a lot of free reign in this style.

Well, more art deco for me then!

Those pictures on your website, mainly the woman in the striped corset, I've seen her before. She makes cartoon drawings and dolls.

Or the woman could very much look like her.

If you want original, you can't forget about David Bowie's Influence in the Fasion, as well as Peter Murphy's and even Johnny Slut's ever-so-Famous DeathHawk.

Also, Their Style (obviously) was influenced by the time they Lived in, wich was the Late 70's and Early 80's, when bits Punk fashon was still seen in the fashon the Gothics, and Deathrockers, and a good example of such is Johnny Slut's DeathHawk. It was still a mohawk but more full, and thrashed out, like the Cure with the sides shaved.

Out of curiosity, would anyone here clarify what the difference between goth rock culture and the Japanese gothic/visual kei culture is?

Is one derivative of the other?

Goth rock culture is based on music that (for the most part) doesn't suck.

So then what's the big deal with people wanting to relate goth rock culture to ****** aesthetics? Is a gothic ****** something of the goth rock culture?

In a word: no.
The two are separate, while yes there is a good deal of overlap the two cultures are not a part of each other, there just happen to be a good deal of people who are interested in both.

I thought most goths were about dressing like vampires. Wouldn't that be considered fetiche?

Anyway rock isn't my fav genre, so I probably don't like gothic rock that much. I'm more of a darkwave/gothic metal person.

IDK Metal just sounds more badass to me.
