Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

It's rather awkward conveying such complex feelings over the internet.

Don't know what you already have/know, but The Changelings have a female lead on most songs (occasionally they have a male lead), Ego Likeness (though they're one of those bands that most of their songs sound alike), Faith and the Muse, Inkubus Sukkubus, and the Mediaeval Baebes to name a few. If you like Evanescence/Nightwish style vocals, you could always check out MyPollux if you don't mind the fact that their songs are in french.

None of these are "goth" bands, per se, but here's a list of all the female-led bands (mostly metal) that I know and love:
After Forever, Cross Cradle, Delain, Edenbridge, Elis, Epica, Erben der Schopfung, Evanescence, Godyva, Head Phones President, High and Mighty Colors, Indica, Lacuna Coil, Leaves' Eyes, Nightwish, No Doubt, Otep, Sarah Brightman(solo artist), Silentium, Sirenia, Stream of Passion, Within Temptation

This is one of Stephen O'Malley's side projects (he's in Sunn O))) and a ton of other bands). The singer was a 17 year old girl, and she puts every other female heavy metal singer to shame.

Siouxsie has always been a favorite of mine when it comes to female singers, particulary in goth rock. I would say Nico but at the same time she's moreso one of image not talent (hate to say).
But yeah, Dinah Cancer and Amanda Palmer are pretty good. I've also always been fond of Janis Joplin, being an avid blues-rock fan.

Yeah, Janis Joplin has a great voice. I also dig Odette, Amy Winehouse, and Joan Baez (the voice if not always the songs themselves).
