If he was in anything less than a 40-55 gallon tank with no filter then I am not remotely surprised. They have an adult size of over 12 inches long and can easily live to over 30 years when kept correctly. They eat a lot, shit a lot, and basically need an external filter to cope with all the crap and ammonia they produce. Plus you need to do weekly 50% water changes without fail.
Did they tell you any of that at the fish store?
Keeping even the most "basic" fish is no walk in the park or cheap effort. Goldfish require exactly all the same equipment and treatment as tropical fish, just without a heater.
Can you tell I advise on a fish forum? Haha.

In an attempt to make life like a musical, when asked "why did the Pharisees want Jesus dead?" I sung "Then We Are Decided" from Jesus Christ Superstar.
Poorly and offkey, but with passion

I like Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter. It's a phenomenally silly movie.

I just got out of the shower. I was in there for at least 30 minutes trying to get out all the stupid backcombing I did, even though I used about half a bottle of conditioner. I'm cold, wet, and my scalp is sore.

I don't know if I've ever smelled Eucalyptus.
Daisies smell like shit. Literally.

Daisies don't taste very well either.
I don't know what compelled me to try and eat one when I was four, but I distinctly remember it was disgusting.

Haha, I remember eating one too when I was a child.
It was horrible.

We have a long holiday that includes the entire next week, which is gonna be boring like ... (Fill in the blank)
I mean, if a person doesn't go out on his birthday, what do you expect him to do for an entire week?!!
... Be on Gnet.

Plenty of people do, there are just some people who either are attention whores who desperately seek our approval or they have a bunch of friends on here who encourage them to come back.
